Next on quantum's RA living, I'll put mesh in the lower opening of the bumper....(sorry, it's a poor Martha Stewart joke ). Actually I am planing on it I just don't know how soon it will be. By the way it took me 5 hours to do the mesh inserts.

5 HOURS!!! Are you including the time it took you to run around and grab the stuff too! That seems like a REALLY long time....or are you also including the time spent in between spray painting the mesh??

Time includes letting spray paint dry, eating dinner, watching tv, and of course going outside to test fit and make sure I wasn't going to hit anything. Also I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I took my time, didn't have anything else to do anyway.

Thanks for the detailed instructions and pictures Quantum! I might give it a shot if I can find five hours of spare time (because I know I won't be able to do it any quicker than you).

I didn't know that US dealers were selling them, but I guess it doesn't really matter if they're also charging rediculous prices for'em. Maybe they'd be willing to negotiate if they're not selling any at those prices, though...I'll look into that.

I looked around at car grill stores online a bit ago, but couldn't find any selling them for our cars. I even tried calling one which looked promising (large selection, including some for older Lancers) and they told me that they had no plans to make any for 04's

Why don't you? You'll find that my question wasn't previously answered. Read carefully and notice I said "in the US."

Nice mod man! Looks sharp... (well, not that nice on the closeup pic, but who looks at a car from 6" except me?!?)

Did you really have to cut the existing grill to get this result? I mean, I like to keep the original parts intact when I can... do you think it can be done without cutting out the whole thing???

I would think that if you wanted to save the stock grills that you would have to find something to use as a frame for the mesh, which would alter the look unless you went and bought a set of replacement stock grills and cut those like he did.

Well, I had time to think about it and since I have access to an electric spot welder, I might be able to fabricate a completely new frame to mount the grill on...

If I get anywhere close to a good result, I'll let you guys know.

Yeah, Unless you want to see the angled slats behind the mesh; I can't think of anyway to do this mod with out cutting them out. Good luch on making our own frames though.

An uncle who's in the business since the 80's might help with that... I really hope it comes out okay.

Maybe I can sell some if the product is good enough!

Thanks again for the ideas and pics man! And if you do some more mods, please show us...

Now there's a nice mesh job, done with the same stuff I did my Evo grill with, not that chicken wire stuff. Good job on the paint, it's exactly how mine is. Thumbs up!

You could always make the frame out of fiberglass... you could even grease up the factory one and make the mold for it... Think that the route I'm going to take... but might make the grill more ricey for me like the one we did for a friends CRX
