So i just got an alarm that has the remote start feature (Viper791). the shop wouldn't hook it up bc i have a 5 speed. has anyone hooked up a remote start on there 5 speed themselves. I always leave my car in Neutral anyway when i park, unless i am on a hill, so i would really like to take full advantage of this system. i know it can be done. Any help would be appreciated.
i got the same alarm.....my friend will install it this sunday. he is certified installer but he will be doing this in my garage. ill let you know how it goes.....this is the best alarm and he recommended it to me......he said he can not count how many 791xv he installed...so im confident on him doing it to my car plus he also intalled my in dash dvd 6.5'' tv in my car...in half hour with nothing but a flash light and his tools....... wow.......
How can it be done SLOWRYD when you have to depress the clutch to start the car? I have the clifford alarm system which costed me $399, which shows and alerts me when the car is in alarm or warning.
Unless there is a relay that can be bypassed to start the car automatically, I wouldn't feel safe at all having a remote start on a manual car. my .02

the 791 rocks as an alarm, all the guys at the shop i got mine from had the same thing. It Says alot when the professionals all have it.
TGOZ - do you have a manual or Auto? if you have a manual, could you get your friend to write down some instructions for me. i have the install manual, i just need to know what needs to be bypassed......ie...the clutch sensor. any suggestions would be VERY helpful.
Jeddi - i feel safe installing the remote start on my manual BC i Never leaqve the car in gear....Only when parked on hills. but here in Charleston hills are few and far between.
the only place i have ever lived that was flatter than SC was Minot, ND.
I'm actually going to get the guys to install the trunk pop feature next week so i might offer the installer some cash on the side for the RS feature. All i would want is him to connect all the wires but one. that way i can hook it up, the shop has no liability, bc i "installed" the feature myself.

Slowryd - I have an EVO and I have the exact same Alarm and YES my remote start does work. It's not a "leave one wire unplugged deal" It takes a bit of work to make a remote start work on a 5sp. You must have a neutral safety switch etc.
BTW - BTW Where in CHAS did you buy it? I'm in Summerville SC.

HUH??? C'mon lets be realistic, how often does that happen. The tranny could pop out of gear too ???
Most shops will install a remote start on a manual if you can prove its a show car (I think 1 show qualifies) and you sign a waver. Personally, I don't think its a good idea - there's always that 1 time you forget, or some dumb valet, et.c

i have had my remote startviper 790xv) on my car for a year now...no problems...i did have the shop bypass the the clutch switch...my car has never gone through any walls or y garage...i actually tried it once to see ho far the car will go the the e brake up...and it didtn even go three feet...but its still alot....
my advice...if you look at your clutch under the steering column you'll notice a litle button about half way up...that is you clutch switch( i belive)...now if that is pressed then your car will start without pushing in the clutch(this is a n easier way of bypassing the clutch switch) if you have the shop hook it up(remote start) normally then it should start without the shop having to bypass the cltuch...this way you can take it off whenever you need to...wrap in with tape or something....
i dont know too much about the neutral sensor things....id be kinda interested in that...
