intercooler question

if or when i decide to go turbo i would like to go for a sleeper look. since i want my car to look stock i was wondering if its possible to paint the intercooler black so nobody notices it from a far, or is the paint going to damage the intercooler? now ive heard my friends talk about this but ive never seen anyone do it so i figure ill just put it out there to hear what you guys think. thanks

I have heared of people using a special paint for their intercooler. Have you thought of adding a grill infront of the intercooler? That would be a good way to hide it. Just my .02.

Paint will not hurt the efficiency of the intercoole I wouldnt think. The only possible effect that it might have is if you put it on really thick...or if i will absorb heat, but that would be hard to do as it sits inside the bumper on most applications

The first thing I thought was that darker colors absorb heat.

i dont think that would affect it just b/c it sits back in the bumper, unless in some way the sun could hit just right.

if i do this i would only put a light coat of paint on the front where you could see it.

radiator paint would be perfect for it.

thanks a lot guys for your input.

i think if it was benefical probably everyone at the track would have a can of white spray paint spraying down their front mounts but you never know, people are waiting for one person to try it out.

Look at my GSX, I painted the intercooler(Evo intercooler) and I think it looks very good. The performance is by no means affected.

pics here(look for the Eclipse GSX):

Thanks.. it was painted with flat black. My particular set up fully exposes the full surface of the intercooler but in the case of a ralliart I would assume it would be partially covered/hidded behind the front grille.

Either way, I still think you can't go wrong with the flat black because in most cases it matches with oem intercoolers making people think is just an intercooler.

my .2c
