Upgrading injectors the WRX way

Yes there have been countless talks about this but I have actually searched and confused myself.

For one, it has been forever that I believed to upgrade the injectors from stock, I would go the WRX way, 2002 2.0L blue top 420cc(or 440cc i forget) side feeds. So I talk with a friend of mine who owns a 07 WRX, he claims the blue tops from WRX is top feed. And apparently ALL 02-09 WRX is top feed. Proven here, http://www.jscspeed.com/wrx/turbo/deatschwerks.htm So now I'm wondering, where did the so called "side feed 2.0L wrx blue tops" come from?

Part 2: A while ago I was reading qlitv's build of his turbo, and he says that the Ralliart must use TOP FEEDS. So are we top feed or side feed? Further research has said that we use SIDE FEEDS, such as the 2.0L wrx blue tops which EvoM users have claimed to be side feeds.

So what is it guys and girls? Thanks to all in advance

PS: the whole point is that I want to upgrade my injectors from stock + 5th injector to 4 oversized, this topic has been slightly discussed before but as I mention above, the sources are conflicting.

I machined some spacers and RC injectors or even DSM injectors will drop right in. I think I still have a bag of them around here somewhere. On the WRX issue all my STi injectors were side feed. All the WRX injectors I've seen were side feed as well - at least as I remember.

@ ROLSD: Good to see u man. I asked qlitv in his thread the specific questions, "top or side" and he said top feeds from the 2.0L WRX.

@ Hackish: From what I know, the yellow USDM STI injectors are side feed(2004-2006 generation), anything after that (2007+) are top feeds. Every aftermarket site I go to says the WRX uses top feeds, why would some say they are side feed???? On another note, what is the model number on the RC injectors you use with those spacers?

Perhaps I should re-iterate that this is not really about what the other injectors are about, this is about what WE 4g69 NEED. Feed style(top or side) and impedence.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This read might have ended the WRX injector conflicts.

I can take photos of the orange top WRX injectors I have at the shop. 100% sure they're side feed. I also have a set of STi Pinks, they too are side feed. I don't remember what my V4 injectors are for colour but they are side feed as well. I also have a set of injectors that someone gave to me, I think they were off a US car and they were top feed. Someone filed the tips off them as a DIY large injector and I had them to take photos of how it destroyed the spray pattern... I can get photos of those too.

As for what fits, it's just the standard honda replacement injector. If I remember correctly it was high impedance but I'd have to check. I think an NA guy may be coming in tomorrow so I can check the resistance of the stockers. When the turbo test mule comes in next I can get the part number too.

@ Hackish: For the RC's are they Saturated? Or Peak and Hold? I understand the STI Pinks are side feed, but I cannot come across any in the WRX form and I've searched the net for the past couple days on this topic. Also I just tried to search and was not able to find orange top wrx injectors.

So does anyone actually know if our stock injectors are top or side feed? That would answer my main discussion.

The mitsu ones are top feed. They are a non-standard size - very short. There are others that will fit right in but I opted to use the most flexible size. Although close they do fit. Maybe I'll put together a few kits with plugs and ebay them just to solve your problem.

To end the confusion, I found someone that has a set of wrx blue injectors 2002 out of their car, it is indeed TOP FEED. So that means the whole time people kept saying to use side feed blue wrx injectors is false. That is also confirmed with hackish's post above.

Sorry the STi injectors are yellow not orange. It has been a long time since I've looked at them... Side feed. No good for you.

STi Pink injectors. Also no good for you. Side feed as well.

This is better. WRX injectors - I don't recall what they came from but they were given to me when people figured they could grind the tips off so I used them for testing. To sum up several days of testing it's a cheap solution that doesn't work very well so I recommend against it.

Closeup of the modded tips. The one on the left flowed around 720cc but I don't remember what the stocker was 500ish...

Hope that helps. Now I'm going to wipe the fuel off my hands before resuming welding... :P

Thanks for your help Hackish.

I think we have come to a conclusion for those who want to upgrade their injectors. To go TOP FEED and NOT side feed like some had previously said.

Now I'm gonna go grab a set of UR top feed 550cc wrx injectors off my friend.

WRX injectors and a reflash is this the plan guys ???? I hate this 5th injector but mostly the fact that no one can tune my car in my area.

Sorry Adam, if I'd known you were in Vancouver I would have brought my flashing stuff with me when I was there at the beginning of this month. The injector thing, as I've said I have some spacers and such machined already. The WRX injectors might not be a bad idea. I've got a set at the shop (the ones i took the photos of) so I might spend some time mapping the latency table for them.

so much work, so little time to do it!
