Ebay "turbo kits"
You know those kits that have a number of things....t3/t4 turbo....intercooler...wastegate...oil lines...etc...they usually sell from 500-800 bucks or so...
has anyone used one of these to start their builds and just looked for the manifold and such elsewhere? I'm just looking into starting to plan a possible turbo build and I'm just wondering if anyone had any success with these. One guy I work with used one on his turbo'd altima...

I saw an eBay turbo kit on an RA on youtube, I think he was only hitting 6-8psi but it worked.. and by the looks of it he was being smart about it (R&D his own setup and was customizing the universal kit to a larger degree) I can't say if it worked well or not but it functioned the way it was supposed to, and consistently.. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable driving a car boosted by eBay though..

you might be better off just piecing one together from scratch.
Instead of spending 1600 for rrms turbo piggy just buy from split second directly and tune it yourself, youll save a lot of money.

lots of people run ebay kits succesfully, but you have to expect the quality to be sub par, and if it's always causing problems don't be surprised...
i have not myself experience this, though i doubt much of the ebay exploding turbos ruining your engine bashing that goes on in a lot of forums is from personal experience, so i mean you could try it, but i mean for not too much more you could piece one out for a decent price without sacrificing quality...
i mean if you go that way and your turbo does blow...then you have to buy another 200$ turbo, or learn your lesson and buy a quality turbo....then the cost is increased...a brand new 16g can be found in the 600$ range...half or less if it's used, or a brand new knock-off...All turbos die eventually...
and what's in the kit? injectors? some method of fuelling/tuning?

This is an example of a kit....it's pretty basic...

I might just go with rrm cause i don't think i have the knowledge to really build one myself and put it together. It would be my first turbo and I think I'll be fine putting one together with instructions, just not building my own. none of my friends are into cars so they'd be no help lol.

those ebay kits just scream bootleg to me. Id look for a used RRM kit or something like that. Building the turbo kit itself isnt hard but i think tuning it for custom kit is what may be a little difficult. im not sure if the RRM piggy can just plug into any kit an run
