Learn sumthin' new every day!
the RA exhibits low to no torque steer because it's longer drive shaft has a link/intermediate shaft. this makes the length of the angled part of the driveshafts equal on both the driver side and passenger side and gets rid of torque steer. torque steer is a result of a long unsupported drive shaft that twists from heavy throttle due to how thin the drive shaft is. since the RA has a link shaft, the amount of twisting on the axles are the same on both drive shafts reducing or eliminated torque steer.
the wheel spinning on one side due to an open dif is a different thing. it's more about how torque is distributed between the drive shafts. how did you guys get to torque steer?
EDIT: how did you get to neons?

OK, back to the topic (which has already been discussed).
Torque is caused by more than unequal drive shafts. I read about the other reason on a site but I forget it.
BTW there is a way to get our infamous understeering RAs to oversteer. Go into a turn way too fast, feel the all-to-familiar understeer, then touch the brakes. Push on them until you feel the rear end swing out. Even with ABS, you can get the rear tires to break loose before ABS starts. Then you can do the fun counter-steer. It's harder to do than with RWD (where you mash the gas and the rear end goes for a ride). But i'm saying you CAN force the ralliart to oversteer and it's pretty fun. I don't know why people can't control oversteer. I'm 16 and last winter I drove our Trailblazer. On snow it's usually called a rear wheel skid, but it's the same as oversteer. In a turn while on the gas, your rear end swings out, it sure isn't hard to turn the wheel to opposite lock and the car goes straight. It's an awesome feeling, the rear end wants to turn around the front end, but the front end wants to turn back against the rear end. But that's with a big, mushy SUV. RWD sports cars are FUN, the first time I got the RA to oversteer I thought it was pretty neat because it's so hard to make FWD oversteer, usually.
I think if I mention the "N" word again, I'll get tossed in the abyss as an offering to the gods of
Now yes, by trail braking - or just standing on the brake pedal in a corner - you can overcome understeer. This however, is not the most desirable way to do so. It's ideal to have the suspension rotate the car for you, not the brakes. Remember, brakes were designed to slow you down! It's all about the rear swaybar.
P.S.... DOHC came out in '95 for the N**n.

Well yeah, I was generalizing towards FWD cars. I don't think I'd want a RWD that had it's suspension set to oversteer - talk about spin happy! Besides, half the fun with RWD is steering with the throttle!
I love mine. It helps me get off the line alot faster. instead so smoke up the tires i get good grip. i would recommend it to everyone, especially if you plan on turbo. we have 5 lancers with turbo, 2 with lsd, they are the fastest in the bunch, one by a full second.
I guess it depends on what you plan on doing with your car?
