ACT clutch for Ralliart.
I emailed ACT inquiring about a clutch for our car and this is what was said:
my reply:
Just out of curiosity, what is it about the factory design that is
causing trouble? Hope you guys produce a clutch for it soon, I've always stuck
with ACT. Thanks.
his response:
It's not that it is a problem to make a clutch; the problem is making a
clutch that would be on par with our manufacturing standards. The clutch
in a Ralliart is modular. What is a modular clutch? A modular clutch has
a design where the flywheel, and pressure plate are riveted together and
the disc is pre-centered. Because there is no retro fit you're pretty
much stuck with a heavy part that cannot be SFI Certified.
I know that other companies have them, but they "cheaply" gain an
increase in clamp load that is not indicative quality.
I hope this helps.

Anyone else heard of our cars having a 'modular' clutch? This is a first for me. If the PP is riveted to the flywheel... how are we supposed to upgrade the PP, do we have to have a new flywheel? RRM can you give us some input?
Hello,
Unfortunately we do not make a performance clutch kit for your car due
to its factory design. If you have any other questions, please let me
know.

I spoke with Richard Right after you Emailed him.. Infact he told me he has been getting a ton of Emails about it and they are getting ready to do some research into it.They have a ton of other things they are working on at this momnent and they are all near finished.. once done then they might start on the RA.I will double check with my Dealership when Igo this week for maintenence and find out if it is riveted or not. From what Richard was telling me is that Yes it is Riveted but they werent sure if that could be undone and if it is a wise idea.ACT does what they can to keep from voiding a warranty and they dont like thier clutches to break easy. Not saying others do.. but that is thier standard.I will try and call him more to find out where this stands.I am good friends with Richard and he is a very honest and good guy.I will try and keep you posted on this as much as I can.
As for RRM and UR.. They make a new Flywheel so that if you get their Clutch you have to get the Flywheel. If the clutch is Modular, and I believe it is cause thats what my dealership said aswell,Then it would be cheaper to make both parts separately and sell them separately for a better gain in profits.Welcome to the world of marketing..Not saying they are doing it to be mean or anything.. Cause thats not how it is.When making parts for cars you have to think of the cost and (especially in high performance) the weight of things you are making. Then to re sell them you need to make back what you spent in materials plus some to keep afloat(keep business flowing)If you can see where I am coming from. You have to spend money to make money is what I am basically saying.Keep hounding and they will do something.Thats the ONLY way it will ever get done.I told Richard about the RRM clutch,But I myself have always used ACT in every mitsubishi I have ever owned. They make a god product, but if my clutch goes before they can make one I might have to go with RRM or with a factory clutch again.

on other boards, they would all you a "post *****"
you should edit your first post to incllude your second question
i got that from the service manual
the flywheel is not in the picture, but the clutch is shown and can be clearly seen that it's NOT riveted to anything.. it won't make any sense if it did
so i call BS on that idea
they just don't want to make one and was looking for an excuse =P

After looking at the manual I'll agree with sillypuddy this is BS.
There are two clutches too choose from RRM and WORKS, Works has a stage 1 and 2 clutch.
There are also three flywheels to choose from RRM,WORKS,Unorthodox Racing.
That right there suggests that ACT is flinging dung at you.

when you feed a line like that to your potential customers, it is a bad business practice.. if you don't think there is demand and just don't want to make one, say so
if that was the case, and he was just spouting out fluff, then how can we trust your techs?
