Angry Just Got My Tanabe Canister

I bought a canister last week and had it welded on yesterday. It sounded awful. It is sooo loud I'm afraid I might get pulled over (with silencer on). My other upgrades are RRM downpipe and Injen CAI. Is anyone else experiencing this? I would like any tips to lower my sound. I might even switch to stock. Can someone else recommend a quieter canister? Thanks for reading and any related input will greatly be appreciated.

The downpipe also increase's your sound. If you don't mind losing a couple ponies you could always just add a catalytic on your DP. BTW, Tanabe's are KNOWN to be LOUD...

See if you can sell the tanabe and get a Magnaflow. EVERYONE I've talked to w/ ANY car has been very happy w/ those.

I put a 24" Magnaflow resonator in my setup and it really quieted the downpipe/axleback setup I have. Louder than stock now, but not obnoxios.

I can still set off car alarms in parking garages though!!! LOL

it's a real tanabe or a knockoff?

real tanabe with a good resonator should sound sweet..

knockoffs will sound hollow and will just be obnoxiuosly loud

Its a real tanabe. I have a picture if you guys would like to see it. Someoone please show me how to upload a picture. This is obnoxiously loud. IM TALKING LIKE OVER 100 decibals still suprised i havent got pulled over loud. With the silencer on it i say about 95 dbs. The sound is awful. Through every rpm and every gear. Even highway. Seems like it makes sound for no reason. I think with a resonator and stock dp and it should pass DB level.

But thanks for the tips and replies guys. Knowing a lot of people read this don't think anybody would want it but I'll sell it if someone wants it for like $75 if you live somewhere around Oregon. It has hangers mounted on it as well. Its model 302. It has a 3 inch inlet (maybe thats why its loud) I'm new with cars. And a 4 inch outlet. Canister is a little longer than 15 inches and comes with a silencer. PM me if you have anymore questions or just leave a post. I'll be happy to reply.

i've heard the magnaflow used with the rrm axle back which sounds good but as far as other vehicles i've always hated magnaflow... couple years ago my buddy had a 92 talon 4g63-nt with header/highflow/magnaflow muffler and 2.5" most of the way, and good lord it sounded like complete ***. it was the most obnoxiously loud, raspy, whiney, ***** sounding exhaust i've ever heard. and currenty a friend of mine has a magnaflow exhaust on his avalanche, its pretty damn quiet and sounds pretty weak.. we always mess with him and say its not a v8.

i dunno, it seems like it really depends on how the rest of the exhaust is done in coordination with the muffler choice, i've always found that still using a cat and perhaps a resonator with a high quality muffler will sound good and not ridiculously loud.

Dude, I'm telling you, go in line like this:

RRM CAI = RRM Downpipe = Magnaflow Resonator = RRM Axleback (Magnaflow)

It sounds real good. Mine too sounded like CRAP with downpipe and stock muffler. Then I put on axleback and it sounded good, but NASCAR loud!!! Like what you are talking about. After the resonator, I really like it, very aggressive sounding and not too loud.

I have a Tanabe on my car, it is loud!! Then again I dont even have the RRM downpipe so I can image that your car is super loud. I dont have the Tanabe that you have, I tried to get a muffler simular looking to stock. When I first got it put on, I was like **** this is too loud!! I thought that I was going to get pulled over. Anyway I dont want to steal your thread. To quiet the Tanabe down, I had a bigger resonator installed and used a silencer off of my old Skunk2 muffler. It is still kind of loud, oh well. I would replace the muffler. Apexi has good mufflers and they dont sound like crap without a cat!!

Thanks for the response Project R and everyone else that responded. Ok correct me if I'm wrong, you have an Tanabe exhaust that probley has smaller piping than mine, no downpipe and you installed a resonator and it is still loud? Do you have any other modifications? Please correct me if I'm wrong because I spent a total of $200 for the welding and exhaust and im am very dissatisfied.

I bought that one, but the guys at the muffler shop said it was to long and wouldnt fit. Then I went and got the muffler that I have now, I am satisfied with it. I dont know what to tell you. I would just get a different muffler or try putting on a larger resonator. Sooner or later you are going to get pulled over.
