Which Muffler

I've been hearing mixed results.

I am looking into a GReddy, Apexi, Tanabe, and Magnaflow.

I'm leaning towards magnaflow right now.

I want that deep bassy sound that i love. I'm planning on getting the RRM downpipe, AEM CAI, going to 2.5" exhaust (i'm going to do the exhaust and intake then save for a turbo) with 2.5" exhaust and the RRM downpipe... am i still emissions legal... i'm not too worried about sound, as the cops really don't care... but i want it to be a quality sound not weedwacker.

Thanks... DJ

Many people have put Magnaflows on their RAs, including me, and I haven't heard any complaints, they all have that nice, deep sound.

As soon as the cat is removed you are illegal, the chance of getting caught is slim unless your in CAli because I think they look underneath for it.

i was looking to get a downpipe from RRM, a 2.5" exhaust piping with a Magnaflow Hi-flow Cat, and a Magnaflow 14829 muffler.
although what would be the easiest cat to install... as they have a universal series, stainless steel, and 43000 series.

would that still be legal?

i was also going to get a few parts powdercoated.
Header, Valvecover... few other things...

would i still be legal on that exhaust setup?

ok if you dont want a really raspy sound then dont get the downpipe, i meen i dont mind the raspyness anymore because i would sacrifise some sound for the power it gives, but deff dont get the downpipe if you hate raspy sounds

Diamond, Tanabe is awful, I have it and I'm planning on getting rid of it. It is so obnoxiosly loud. I have RRM downpipe, Injen CAI, and Tanabe 302 Canister/ exhaust. I would go for the RRM Axelback. But if you want Magnaflow you should consider the 14829 most people in the Evo M forums seem to write good reviews for it.

i was looking at the 14842 too.... i just want a throaty sound... i just don't want a bumble bee on steriods sound, if it's still rumbly then it won't bother me, i just want to stay emissions legaland i would liek to keep the CEL off too. is there a way to possibly do that?

The best way to stay emission legal is get a rrm axleback or custom axleback.

As of right now there is no CEL fix for the downpipe.

Most people would refer to the downpipe as a race header used only for racing do to the noise. I know some people can deal with noise, It doesn't bother me but I hate the added attention from PO and street racers.

If i add a Hi-flow cat. past the down pipe, would that make it legal?

Like i said, i live in a rural area, cops would only pull me over because their jealous for the fact that their ford escorts don't sound like my ralliart!

I think the law states that you can't remove a cat unless it is defective in some way. Don't quote me on this though this is just what I've heard.

It won't be legal, your exhaust will get louder, and CEL may occur. You could get a resonator to quiet it down.

If you get a high-flow cat in there, you should be alright. Messing with your cat at all is illegal, unless it's no longer functional (damage or something), so come up with a good story about why you had to put a new one in, just in case.

from what i've heard the cel light only comes on if there is no cat. so if you get a hi flow cat then you should be fine. if your still looking for a nice muffler, the hks mufflers are extremely nice they have a deep rumble to them, as long as the inlet to the muffler is the same diameter as the piping you should have a decent sound.
