question for all...

Ok, so I've settled on the magnaflow exhaust, #14829, and started to think. Would welding this exhaust on reduce my trade in value of the car any? would i get more for the car when i trade it in in a year or two if i left the stock exhaust on? i was thinking of trading in for an evo in less than a year...and dont want a hassle from mitsu...likewise, i was also looking at....an STI...i guess my question is, should i only mod my with mitsubishi approved accessories if i intend to trade it in, or doesn't it matter? thanks for the help-i know it may be a dumb question from a newb, but id rather know for sure. thank you!

It doesn't matter. Generally mods don't increase the value of the car, unless we're talking about $20k in mods. The best thing to do is to mod the car in ways that can be undone. When it comes time to sell the car, return it to stock and sell the aftermarket parts seperately.

Loud mufflers do reduce resale value (people don't like loud cars), but probably not by much, and the magnaflow isn't quite THAT loud.

depending on who's looking to buy...

Performance parts appeal to the tuning generation... "hey less money i have to spend" ... so the $300 in parts can potentially move it up about +200/300 dollars... but for older people or just the average family car/commuter... Negatory on the brownie points.

Just a muffler? They won't even notice - realistically it won't affect price one way or another.

It won't affect the selling price but if you keep the car for a couple of years and something happens to the drivetrain, you're going to want to put the stock muffler back on. They'll do whatever they can to say that the mod affected the warranty. Bolt on exhaust is really a good way to go.
