Greddy Auto Timer installed

I'm sorry I was so blunt earlier today, but come on.............you have a Turbo Timer on a N/A car man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's worse than an Evo wing on a regular Lancer with spinner hubcaps.

yea, MIVEC switches the cam profile, which increases intake lift duration, which allows more air to enter the cyl, which causes the engine to produce more power, and more heat. i think thats what he is referring to, and it makes sense to me. not a very significant increase, but a visible one
Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you cold start your car and let it idle for a few minutes, doesn't that warm up the oil?
How would this cool it down?
Since you have the oil and water gauges, did you record the temps after 10 minutes before and after installing the turbo timer? What were they before, after turning your car off for 10 minutes, and what are they now after letting it idle for 10 minutes?

He's getting the same results with the turbo timer as letting it idle manually. He's just tired of sitting in his car letting it idle untill it cools down enough for his comfort. His oil temps are getting up to 250F. As far as mivec not heating the oil more... If you're running in mivec you're over 3600 rpm. If I remember correctly (may have mistaken identity here) he's running closer to 4k for extended periods of highway cruising. Hi rpm=high heat. That's why they recommend a colder running spark plug for "prolonged high rpm running" in the back of any haynes manual (reading your spark plugs).

1) Drive car, turn off engine, let it sit turned off for 10 min, then check the temps.
2) Drive car, use turbo timer, let it idle for 10 min, then check temps.
3) What's the temp difference?

. The reason you'd use them on a turbo charged car is because a turbo spins between 75000-100000 rpm so if you stop the car after bagging on it the oil will coke to the bearings since the turbo runs so much hotter than the engine, so you give it a few extra minutes of idle time. A turbo timer is 100% useless on an NA car unless you're a ricer that likes extra buttons and gizmos.

ok.. let's recap
the timer doesn't idle the car for 10 minutes.. the longest it does is 3 minutes
1. if i turn off the car and leave it for 10-15 minutes or so, i turn it on and it's about 5 degree difference
2. if i turn off the car and leave it for 10-15 minutes with the hood up, it's about 10 degrees
3. if i idle the car for 3 minutes, it drops almost 20 degrees
4. if i idle the car for 3 minutes with the hood up, it drops down to 200F (from 240F)
when i drive it hard, i am in 4000-4500rpm range for about an hour straight.. and you can see the needle creep up from 200F (normal cruising) to 240F and stay there for the duration of the run.. then when i downshift on the off ramp, it tops off at 250F
the water temp runs abotu 190F during normal cruising and tops off at 220F at the end of the off ramp
i don't think it's a big issue in terms of reliablity, but i am just a sucker for details and making sure that i baby the car.. if i don't know the temps (without the gauges), would i care as much? no.. but now that I know it's running hot, i am making sure it runs cooler
thanks for all the opinions, for and against.. i think everybody has their own idea of what is right, it's just like the SRI vs. CAI thread.. i have seen the difference here.. and your style of driving might be differrent than mine.. so it's a matter of what works for you

Do you even realize how frikin' big Canada is?!?! They don't saturate the roads looking for speeders, they're busy actually trying to prevent crime... Oh yeah, 4k is closer to 80 than 90, these are also world class cars being built today. That means they have to hold up to say.... AUTOBAHN cruising speeds as well. It's not what rpm you cruise at that damages an engine, it's how hard you push the car to get there!

. I can't even explain in funny terms how the way it looked. Ontop of that, he gave me a BOV sound (ooooh im scared now) and it sounded like a tire getting slashed
