On a car that has a cast-iron header, yeah, you need to replace it. You would normally replace it with a manderel bent tubular header....just like the one we have stock.

Please explain.
+2, if you insist on making your header atleast look aftermarket, since stock is about the best you can get, Get it powdercoated.

www.Jet-hot.com or go to your local powdercoater, and check the colors out and heck maybe even get the whole engine coated, ...

Sorry i prefer powdercoating to paint... i think it looks nicer.

I think what some of you are talking about header+downpipe is mostly considered a race header. Eradicates the use of the cat and everything.
They call it race because it's usually DAMN loud and illegal.

the reason why nexus is making a header is cause i called them back in jan, i saw their ad in modified and they make custom headers. so i asked them to make me some custom headers and they said they will, it will be done in 2-3mons. i kept calling them and they keep saying its not done. so imma call them tomorrow and see whats up, ill tell ya the gains the headers will give, o yea another question, on the 4G eclispe, since the 4cyl is the same engine as ours exactly, are the headers gonna be the same also?

Anything that bolts up for the 4g69 engine, will bolt to ours (same engine.)

i think it is very pointless to make headers. our headers are good enough. i would really like to see manufactures to make cam gears and cam shafts. i think we would get more hp out of the cams than headers.

I didn't understand a word you said.

Modified how?

Our headers present probably the best torque and horsepower curves available the way they are.

Just to correct some of you guys.

You only have a Header (one exhaust manifold)...not headers (more than one exhaust manifold)...unless if you have a V or H configuration engine

Header not Headers.

Just because it's a tubeular/mandral bent header doesn't mean it's already awsome...although most of them are from the factory, a good example is the stock exhaust manifold on the nissan sentra ser...4 nice mandral bent tubular tubes going into a HUGE HUGE cat....buying any aftermarket header (even without a downpipe) yeilds a nice 12-15whp gain.

However, I'm going to go out in a limb most of that (90-95%) probally comes from the removal from the largest cat I've ever seen on a car.

I think most of us know this. And speaking for myself, it's just habit saying headers instead of "a header." To me it's weird saying "hey, i'm getting a header."
"I'm getting headers" is much smoother.

But yes, i know... we have a header not headers.

I still maintain the fact that getting new header will not gain as much ... We have a well designed header, and in fact even though it's a 4-2 it is very well capable. You'd need to have some serious hp to really need to upgrade that first... On this car this should be one of the mods you should do after, you have downpipe/Intake/exhaust/piggyback and other such mods.

Also, a header itself will not do much unless you have an engine thats putting out a lot of extra air. For instance, if you put on some cams/cam gears etc, a header will help in that matter. The same goes for a catback. A header is only a part that will help when you get some major aftermarket mods done to the engine (no, a cai is not a major mod).

I had someone come in yesterday to look at my car and he mentioned how it seemed to be a very restrictive header...

??? Based on what? Joe Schmoe walking off the street and saying your header is restrictive means nothing.
