Want quiet aftermarket muffler(updated 7-19)

I am wanting to upgrade my exhaust, but I dont know what different companies sound like. I would assume that most name brand stainless steal mufflers will give you the same HP & torgue improvements, but which ones are quite. I do not want my car to sound really loud. Also, What does a resonator do? (I am assume it makes it louder)

Are you wanting to do a full catback or just an axleback. Catback is the whole exhaust from front to back and axelback is just muffler back?

Catback=everything from the catalytic converter to the rear is replaced (so the header, downpipe and catalytic are not replaced).
Axleback=I think everything from the rear axle (suspension) back, basically just the muffler is replaced.
Might be wrong on the axleback though.

captain is right, but a resonator makes your exhaust more quiet, not louder.
And to answer your initial question, theres not really a quiet aftermarket muffler. Just dont get those ebay ones, those are LOUD and sound like crap (most of them do at least).

i am looking to basically change the muffler, not a whole exhaust system.

So i want a resonator, and any good name brand will give me about the same sounds?

You just want a muffler in that case, so no you dont need to buy a resonator. If you want just the muffler, go magnaflow. On our cars they arent the loudest.

sounds good. Is there a specific magnaflow I need to get for our car such as specific model number or diameter where it connects to our stock pipe?

The Magnaflow muffler from RRM looks good. I think it will fit my car but I'm not sure. Anybody know if it doesn't? I know some catbacks don't and can't seem to get a straight answer as to what does. Tried looking at the bends myself and trying to compare picture-wise but that sounds like a bad idea.
