06 RA with tanny problems

06 lancer RA 5-speed manual

well today i got in my car and went to back out of my garage, put it in reverse like normal and started to let my clutch out, it felt like the e-brake was still on, so i made sure it was off. it was all the way down and the car wouldnt go backwards. it felt like the rear wheels were locked and i was trying to push against it. it started to move after i revved a lot higher than normal and started to release the clutch. it finally moved and i got to the driveway and put it in neutral and let it coast down the driveway.

i put the car in 1st and it did the same thing, like something was pushing against it. i revved a little higher than normal and released the clutch slowly, the car jerked and finally started driving like normal. when i tried to shift into 2nd i had to force it out of 1st and it went into second ok. and im sure everyone knows, when you are almost at a stop and your clutch is in and you put a little pressure on the shifter, it slides into 1st with ease. well my car grinded so i let off everything came to a complete stop, then i had to force it into 1st like there was some kind of block on it.

when i got off the freeway to the dealership, i slowed down, came to a stop put it in neutral and let out the clutch, the car stalled on its own. i started again and i was letting out the clutch and the anti-lock light came on. i just cruised to teh dealership and dropped it off.

called 4 hours later and was told that they have to tear down my transmission! WTF??????? the car has 2500 miles on it and something is wrong with the tranny? i mean i do drive it hard but it got somewhat of a breakin for the first 500 miles and the first oil change at 1000.

the service guy told me that they wont be able to tell me what is wrong until the tranny is gone through and i asked about a rental car. he told me there will be no rental until they find out what is wrong with it and how much it will cost to fix.

shouldnt this be covered under lemon law? there should be some kind of way for me to get a new car or atleast a rental until this one is fixed right?

ps: sorry fior the long post, im really really angry right now.

Not covered by the lemon law. Each state is different, but the lemon law usually requires that your car has to be serviced for the same problem 3 times, or be in the shop for at least X number of days. If they find the problem, fix it under warranty, then there's no lemon issue. Be hopeful, maybe you'll get a new tranny out of the deal.

I think the rental issue depends on the dealership's policies. Could check with your insurance to see if you have rental coverage.

califonia lemon law says if the car is in the shop for a combined time of 30 days in the first 18 months or 18000 miles of owning the car, it is a lemon.

i bought the car with 137 miles on it.

and it sucks that i dont have rental coverage on my insurance...

i find out tommorow if they were able to tear it down, hopefully its just a gear or something that isnt hard to replace, but my buddy had an 03 diamante with 50k on it and he blew the tranny, they kept refusing to replace it and the problem kept occuring, so i dunno if they are gonna screw me over like they did with him.

ill keep everyone posted

Question; if there is something internally wrong inside the transmission, under warranty the dealer isn't going to tear the transmissions apart and fix it? Or will they simple have another unit shipped in to replace the whole transmission?

That's a lot... Mine only had 7 miles on it. There's a possibility that yours was abused either by the salesmen or by the people test driving it.

They will need to rip it open and see what the problem is. It could be a snycro it could be any number of different things. They won't give you a whole transmission unless, there was a number of issues that would take more cost in labour than the entire transmission would cost.

the service manager thinks that the reason it went is because i was powershifting or i missed a shift. which i have only done once. i honestly dont think that missing a shift would hurt a car that bad, i grinded second a little and that was it, so i dont think that is the problem

he said if it turns out it is my fault, the teardown costs 880$ which i think is ridiculous but i told him to go for it because im pretty sure its something wrong with the car itself, not the way i drive it. if the car is messed up because of a little hard driving, that would be the last mitsubishi that i buy.

well they finally tore the tranny apart, they said it was my fault for shifting from reverse to 1st too quickly without letting the car stop rolling so it snapped the snap rings on the synchro. i dunno how that happens on a car that is stick, but i guess it happens. the service guy gave me the benefit of the doubt and talked his manager into putting it through warrenty, and he said he is gonna put in a new clutch disc for free. so the car should be done by friday if all goes as planned, as of right now, everything has been done on time, so hopefully they dont get side tracked and forget about the newest car in their service department lol
