If ever your car gets to a big puddle of water, and that your open pod happens to stick its head in the water, that's the end of your engine. a bypass valve, which looks like a sponge flying saucer is fitted in the middle of the intake tubing much higher up than the open pod some where in the engine by.

The by pass valve will open up only when the vacum gets too high due to water at the open pod, saving your engine......

Should be something like this......

Precisely. And in my opinion a necessity, because it only takes ONE big puddle to hydrolock your engine.

Btw, never feel bad about asking a question. We were all newbies at one point, and hell, some of us still are. You learn as you go, or just read a lot and learn that way

So I when i first got my intake almost 2years ago now i started to try to put in the cold air w/o removing the bumper, couldn't get it so i said f**k it.

I decided now its time to try again pull it out of the garage, take off the filter to the sri and start unpacking the extension when i notice on the box it says 5SPEED only

When i ordered it i told him it was an auto and i never even looked at the box. I just assumed that i couldnt get it on b/c i didnt take the bumper off.......

You don't need a bypass valve if you have a short ram do you? I put mine on like 2 months ago, like I said it was a Injen Full intake, I just used it as a short. I took out my old intake and put the computer chip into the short ram and then let my car sit while on for like 10 minutes to get the feel for it. I hope I didn't need anything else, since then it's been running fine.

You don't need a bypass with the short. I've had mine for almost 2yrs. as just the short and its still running great.

Do you have a Auto or Manual? im looking to get my hands on a injen cold air extension for an auto.

Not in the least bit, if you get water in a short ram, you've probably got water in your cabin. What do you mean you put your chip in the short ram? You're just talking about the O2 sensor, right? If you don't put that in it'll run like ****, it at all. And yeah, no tuning is needed for CAI or SRI, the ECU will adjust itself for that small of a change.

I have an auto and I still have the extension for the full intake since I only used the short RAM.

And ralliart I did mean to type the "censor" not "chip"

Cool, thought you might've stuck a mobo or your ecu in there for some reason. Crazy auto drivers

part number on injen cai

Just bought a used 2005 lancer ralliart (only had 10,000 clicks!!). Im a noob to this forum and very noob on lancer mods. My question is what's the part number for the injen cai that will fit the lancer ralliart. i was looking into the aem cai (part # 21-436) but since It rains a lot here in vancouver bc, I'm more interested on the injen cai so i can use the the short version and install the 2nd piece in the summer. Thanks in advance and will appreciate any advice.

your might save a few $$ going through ebay on this one. some dealers sell stuff like that on ebay at their cost just to boost sales.

Okay, so far nothing about where a bypass valve can be purchased. Is it through Injen or AEM?
