depends on "how you down shift...and at what rpm.

It could just be the result of hard lanching if you try to race a lot. Do you have the car modded a lot?

Maybe think about a performance clutch.

And yeah, clutches won't be covered.

only have a CAI, i down shift at about 4k rpms from 4th to 3rd then lower from 3rd to 2nd
i race alot tooo, so what would be a good clutch and how much would it cost, i called the stealer ship and they said 700
i saw one at rrm for about 500

Brakes are cheaper than clutches. You really shouldn't downshift to slow down, all it does is wear down your clutch and synchros. For the most part I only do it in autocross, and whenever I do, I always rev-match.

My advice to you to try and save whatever is left of your clutch is do not downshift at 4 thousand rpms. Wait for the rpms to drop a little lower so the engine and trans are not reving so high when you downshift. I normally down shift about 2500rpms or lower if I am coming to a stop or getting into slower traffic.

My guess is too many hard launches and hard downshifts.
Otter is right....brakes are cheaper than clutches. I only downshift when needed in turns, emergencies, or on the track. And I heel toe like a SOB!

thanks for all the input,
i think my clutch is about done, even when i change from 1st to 2nd at about 2.5 or 3k rpms; and accelerate a little more, my tach still goes faster than the engine,
but when i'm driving around for hours, and it is really hot, everythign is fine..

so i'm a little confused

You are explaining a typical slipping clutch. Time to start shopping for a new one before this one won't grab at all.

you should learn to rev match, and heel and toe driving too. learning both of these techniques will help save your clutch and brakes as well. if you learn double clutch shifting you can even save the synchros from wear.

brakes are cheaper then what??...

$700 for a clutch?...that's crazy.

I recently, like 3 weeks ago, got a new centerforce stage 1 for my xr, for the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing and alignment tool it cost me $200, then due to some unfortunate cricumstances i ended up not being able to install it myself, so took it to a shop where it cost me $400 labour to get done, and they ground(not turned) the flywheel.

That's all in Cdn dollars for those you in the states, so if they are quoting $700 us that seems high, shop around, I had some places quote try to quote me $600+ for just the labour.

As for brakes, if I take it to a shop I'd expect to pay the same or more.

Downshifting isn't bad, doing it when you're already at 4000 rpm, just to slow down, was probably a contributing factor, I'd recommend the same as above, doing it around 2000-2500 when slowing down.

I am alittle confused too. your tach goes faster then your engine? That isnt a slipping clutch, that is a faulty tach. A slipping clutch will cause the engine to rev up while not speeding up the car.

i downshift all the time, but i always always rev match. when youre engine revs up as fast as out Mivec 2.4 does, it makes it a lot easier.

try rev matching in your car then try a civic, trust me its a whole world of difference lol.

only time i downshift hard without rev matching is to avoid an accident or if im going into way slower traffic. and even then i try to rev match if i can.

alright, this is what happens, when i hit the gas, the engines revs higher then it takes a few seconds to cath up with the clutch,
from what im hearing it is the clutch,
seems like i have to get it done sooner
so anybody has a how to step by step installation of our clutch, i will order the clutch from rrm and install it in a few weeks

let me know your input
