Newbie needs a hand please

HI there, just bought a 06 ralliart. i would like to mod a couple things to make it my own, put a magnaflow street series with the 7x4 tip and i lost tons of torque, i also noticed the MIVEC curv change a great deal, almost could not feel the switch over at all, except a bit more in 4th geer. Should this be? thinking about intake and cat, but do not want to loose the torque, not a drag strip guy, mostly in town, so the 6000+ rpm stuff is not want i am after. Any idea's with anticipated results, thanks a bunch guys/gals

you still have a good deal of restriction in the stock dp and cat. cai is gonna lose more low end. have you let the ecu relearn (reset and drive minimum of 75 miles?) Oil pressure dictates mivec switchover, so you are not feeling/hearing it because you change the sound and they way the car drives. the UP will give you some torque back(around 9wtq) and has a low price. search some of the information you are requesting, and read the n00b thread.

Welcome to the forums.

You are not making much more power over 6k anyways so ideally you are going in the right direction.

the muffler wont reduce ur low end tq enough to be noticeable. the mivec crossover is barely noticeable. you can hear the engine make a diffirent sound. its not like vtec when your really notice the difference.

Beg to differ with ya Ralliart04 when i put the muffler on 14829 magnaflow, i lost tons of torque, especially from 2nd gear and up, love the sound, but ,miss the torque, darn thing seems to run better factory, i am 40 driven allot of cars, very sensitive to throttle and torque changes, and it changed, but thats what confussed me. I mean i could through a different reinator inthere and give me back some b/p but that would defeat the whole purpose i think.

Nobody has reported a loss in torque from just changing a muffler. The enemies of back pressure are far before the stock muffler. Your age or experience of cars doesn't matter, the truth of flow dynamics does. I have never seen an axleback lose power unless it was not properly designed.

Well i will give you that, did not suggest all of the cars were similar , just in my case, there is no mistaking the change, torque leaves and MIVEC curve changes up, goes from about 3500 or so (with factory) up to about 4k with the exhaust, no so concerned with that as much as the bottom end. Maybe its just me......but don't think so, i appreciate the feedback a great deal, learning as i go, thanks again.

As long it is a clean weld and the exhaust is not hitting a wall somewhere it should be ok.

now thats a good point, the weld is off to one side slightly, its a big gap to fill with weld, frankly the muffler place did not do the cleanest job of it, i wonder if that is creating any issues for me.

Anything to hinder flow will cause an issue. Just adding a muffler should help flow at the end of the exhaust which should not affect torque, rather slightly reduce the back pressure that is there.

The most restrictive part of the stock exhaust is the catalytic and the pipe just before that.
