RRM Intake Cone Filter problem?

Well as the title states i've been having problems with the intake cone for my RRM intake.. Recently the outter chrome ring fell off, which i didn't bother to complain about since it still worked the same.. just looked weird. But then today i was driving and the inner chrome piece on the inside of the intake fell off, shot into my intake piping but was stopped by the air sensor thankfully cause i didn't want to go fishing for it... I didn't know this happened until my car just lost all power and felt like it died... I've been to Autozone, and VIP autoparts looking to replace the intake but no one sells it something that'll fit a 2.5 intake pipe. Then i remembered that someone told me the intake was a K&N brand and well doesn't K&N have that million mile warranty? I mean i wash the intake with every oil change (3000K) and more often than that during the winter with all the salt and shiet flying around... Any thoughts? Anyone else find a replacement for the intake cone?

you aren't supposed to wash the filter. You are supposed to recharge every 30k to 50k if I am not mistaken, you can check K&N's website for more info.

You can buy a reguler cone filter and use rubber adapters to get it down to 2.5" I have the autozone cone filter which is 3" ID standard and it came with rubber rings to fit 2.5" and 2.75" piping as well. It was only like 25$ for the filter and it is the same design. I am not sure of the warranty though.

You need to get a new filter, as Dan said, you're not supposed to just wash them, but rather use K&N's solvent, rinse, and re-oil using K&N's oil. Order a new filter online, just about every performance site should have one. Any 2.5" filter will work, doesn't have to be K&N's.

And as far as cleaning and re-oiling the K&N goes, every oil change is WAY too often. They work better when they get a little dirt on them.

Not to mention, I believe the newer K&N filters are not supposed to be oiled.

well i do use the recharge kit, and i wash it using the solvent and reoil it when its dry. As far as the one from autozone they didn't have one that fit a 2.5 inch piping for some reason... only a 3inch and bigger one, or just a 3 inch one...

Anyone know about the warranty? I mean the damned thing fell apart on me...

21/2" for you stock intake pipe sounds a bit small I am pretty sure that mine is a 3" ??? I have a K&N pod filter on mine works perfectly just make sure when you reoil/recharge it that you spray on the outside only and allow to dry and depending on if it is a shorty or long intake depends on how often you clean when I had my long one I cleaned it every second oil change but with a shortie I would think every 4th oil change

But check with RRM about the pod (damaged one)and see what they have to say...

RRM's CAI uses a 2.5" filter, Injen uses a 2.75" one, not sure about AEM.

I have the RRM SRI with a 2.5 filter... freakin' near impossible to find those sold locally in boston... bah, i'm waiting on Rock's response about the filter. I'm just using my stock intake box right now cause i don't want to take any chances.

From K&N's website

http://www.knfilters.com/faq.htm#19

20. How do I know when to clean the filter?

The general rule of thumb is that the filter needs to be cleaned when the dirt build up gets as thick as the wire mesh. The usual interval is 30,000 - 50,000 miles depending on driving conditions. We recommend that you check your filter about once a year in normal usage.
The new filters need to be washed and that's it. No oil. I don't think they need any solvent either, since there is no oil involved, but I am not positive. It's been awhile since they came out and that was the last time I read the information. They are also more efficient than the old style filters, and I believe (long time ago for me to remember) that they even have a more linear CFM that is higher than the old style.

sounds good.. but i double checked and the piping intlet for the intake is definitely a 2.5 inch. I ordered a K&N from Jegs cause RRM was asking for 45 or something when i called them about 3 weeks ago and i couldn't afford that. We'll see how the new filter goes, also its a different shape so i might need to try and make some room for it if it doesn't fit.

yeah, the stock airbox outlet to the MAS is 2.5" as well, I know because I cut it off the box for my DIY CAI.

can you make an adaptor one that will hold the K&N pod on (3") and then have it reduce down to the size that you currently have you sould be able to get a piece of silicon hosing to do this....

AEM is 2.75". They recommend cleaning their filter every 30-50k. I have only cleaned mine once (been on for 18k), but check it at every oil change.
