ok guys after my accident, the mechanics put in a new engine for my RA,
now i m noticing that after reaching 3500rpms my car sounds like a loud abnoxious boat!

all i have is a sri and im pretty dam sure it didnt sound like this before.... i
was wondering what i should check for? is it possible that its like this because its a brand new engine?

Check for crappy bodywork or inner fenders etc rubbing on the engine, exhaust, etc.... You probably have motor mounts that may have shifted also, creating a metal to metal sound....

How bad was this accident that the motor needed to be replaced and the car was not totalled?

 

3500 is right around mivec, maybe it sounds differen't while the engine is breaking in still?

 

well the sound is nothing to do with body work....

it sounds like the downpipe is affected by this sound....

its almost as if i have a cheap exhaust system in my car...

just sounds like crap after 3500rpm

 

Maybe there is something wrong with your stock CAT? Those things rattle real bad when they break appart inside. Go under your car and start shaking parts of you exhaust and see if you hear anything.

 

The flex section of a downpipe is also a likely culprit. There's an inner pipe that's like corrugated pipe, with a braided cover. The corrugated section breaks or rusts out, and you can't see it because of the cover. Even a small leak in that section will make a horrible sound.

to add to more observations....i notice wehn the car is in neutral and i stomp on the gas, the engine sounds fine....

wehn im driving and i hit over 5000rpms the car starts making raspy sounds as if metal is clinging somewhere below...

just sounds like shiet...

im gona call up the insurance company and see if they can help me out with a different garage..

 

Still points to the exhaust, then. When it's in neutral and you stomp the gas, the engine doesn't move. When it's in gear, it moves around a bit in the engine bay, flexes the exhaust, and makes a noise.

 

i had that and it took 5 tries at the dealer to replace the downpipe. but mine was a horrible rattle when i wasnt flooring the car. its a flaw and you should demand to have it replaced, it took a lot for them to do it for me but when they did it went away.

 

maybe you have an exhaust leak because that happened to me when i put my new header and downpipe because the bolts were tightened properly or you have a bad gasket .. does it sounds kinda like a muffler motorcycle

 

ok update...

so this morning the body shop finally installed the new flex pipe and exhaust..

n i got to test drive it and the loud abnoxious boat sound and high pitch sound is still tehre (3500rpms and at 5000rpms)

my car at neutral and revving sounds really loud too compared to before...n still the CEL light is on.....


its been almost 2 months since i had my car back....i really dontknow whats wrong with the new engine...

 

ok finally the loud sound is gone...

the mechanic re timed the engine...n now it sounds like gold...
