Weird fluttering vibration from engine bay??
In the morning when I first start my car there is this weird fluttering vibration coming from the engine bay. Do any of you guys know what it might be?? It only happens after it has been sitting for a while. There is also another thing that happens from time to time. I dont know if it may be related, but from a dead stop when I start to take off it seems like the clutch is slipping, kind of like this early morning shuttering. Could they be related?? Any ideas?? I have an 04 Ralliart 5 speed with 45,000 mi. In kind of information what be great!!
i have that same vibration when i start driving in the morning to. i dont think much of it because 1 i don't know about anything on cars, and 2 i think its the car just warming up but heck i could be totally wrong. i would like to know what it is tho. i also have 04 5spd
If the sound only happens for like the first 10-20 seconds after you start the car (may be longer on really cold days), then it's just the car checking its sensors and relays, and warming itself up. You should see the tach needle hovering up around 1100-1200rpm during the warm up, then drop down to normal 700-800rpm idle when the noise goes away. If you were to watch your engine while it was doing this, it moves around like it's trying to climb out of your car.
The clutch may be hot spotted a bit. I know mine is, and it acts that way the first few stop/starts in the morning. Cold weather makes it seem worse. The problem goes away once the clutch disc and flywheel warm up, so my solution was to start out in 2nd gear the first two stop/starts, and then drive normally after that.

Could be like I had on my talon . . . fluttering, chime-like, muffled bell coming from the tranny.
Clutch . . . there are 4 springs on the pressure plate (manual). Due to age, they don't hold still and flutters from normal engine movement. How do I know, I took the tranny and clutch out.
I had that same experience on automatics car, especially Mitsu. then, I heard it on a Ford Ranger and Tauras . . . I think it's the automatic tranny flex plate.
