Exclamation Problem with my accessory belt and pulley...

Ok, this happen about 2weeks ago but im finally getting around to posting this up. I need some advice/help if any ralliart owners can be of assistance.

Ok.

... about 2weeks ago I was coming from Ziincs (club/bar) in downtown fullerton when I heard this clunking noise coming from my car. It sounded like my engine was eating rocks, . My car still ran and engine was still on, so I pull over and popp my hood. My friend notice that my accesory belt was ripped to shreds, but enough of it was still on to keep the car running. I drove home slowely, being very cautious and garage her. The next evening I jacked her up to see what happen and I found this:

The shredded acessory belt

The smaller part of it is what came off, the bigger part was on enough to keep the car moving and get me home. So I went to napa and bought a new one and now I had it on. Well, I have the JoesEvo/RRM pulley so that means I have to pull that square part back with a tenisoner so I can get some slack on the accesory belt.

Well, when I put the pulley on before I moved it with lil to no problem, but this time... it would not budge. I swear I tried and it would not move, grrrrr. So I called over my friend, EvoM member gladiator960 to help and he couldn't move it. So I gave it my last try and I pull and *BAM*! I chipped of the part the tensioner goes in, ****!!!!

Chipped part

So I called my other friend over, EvoM member starlite demon and he assist me to unscrew the middle nut right below the box engraved area (where the tensioner goes). If I take the screw out and loosen up and gives me the slack for the belt to go on smoothly, which it did.

I put everthing back on, start the car up and another problem. The accesory belt wont stay on the furthest pulley. Its off to the side and makes a squeeking sound sometimes on start up and during driving.

Where I mark red is how much of the belt is off. It's not much, maybe a lil smaller than half an inch.

and...

Every other 3 or 4 days I put the belt fully back on the pulley, but when I start the car up, it jumps immedialtly off track, damn! I think that last pulley is bent from the car accident, but my accident was nowhere near there or any damage for that matter. The other pullies are perfectly and functioning fine.

So my question is, what do I do now. Im afraid this accessory belt is gonna get eating up too and Ill have to shell out more money for a new one, . I called mitsubishi and they told me to come on in, but that means I have to take the pulley out and put the new one in and he said my warranty expire too and its $80 for a diagnostic test, wow.

P.S. I know I have spelling error, but its late im tired and im in a rush...

It sounds to me like your tensioner is frozen, and if the tensioner is frozen and the pulley will still turn the pulley could be out of alignment. If the tensioner can't move like it's supposed to I would start there.

What pulley is the belt sliding off of? Is it next to the tensioner in the series? If so, it may be caused by the tensioner, not that pulley. The other thing could be when the tensioner began to fail it put too much stress on the other pulley and now it's misaligned. The belt should have failed before this happened though.

The tensioner pulley and tension device are most likely your root cause. If you replace that and the belt continues to walk the system is out of alignment. If that's the case replacing the component that is bent should fix the belt problem.

It could be the opposite as well, but that's less likely. The bent part could potentially cause the tensioner to fail, for the same reasons the bad tensioner could cause the misalignment.

If the tensioner is not working properly it MUST be replaced.

If the belt walks after the tensioner is replaced something is out of alignment. Depending upon how bad the belt walks with the new tensioner I would make a descision on whether or not to replace anything else.

I would start by replacing your broken tensioner, as Dan stated, then report back.

As stated above i'd say it would be a sieze tensioner, fix it and maybe that'll allow you to align the pulley back up?
