Getting Piggyback (tuning question)
Getting Piggyback (tuning question)
I'm going to buy the 49$ package that gives you that extra software. I asked my mechanic if he can do everything and he said yes...I didn't get to into it with him but I'm wondering if anyone else had a mechanic actually tune and set everything up there, I'd rather not hook my laptop up and start fiddeling with numbers >_> that effect my car lol
without a dyno it will be hard for him to do alot of tuning since he'll have to drive the car figure out what needs to be tuned, drive it again, etc. it might go quicker to take it to a dyno shop and they have a better chance of working with this software before and getting right into it.
also if you're about to buy a new piggy from RRM i think it comes with the software.

Call us for details. A lot of guys say the ywill do it for $ but maybe they are not too good. Go to piggytech page on our site to get more insight into tuning etc... with the piggyback. It is not too hard but best to do with wideband to be safe or go to a real dyno.

to add to this thread... the guys witht he piggybacks installed... by simply driving around how can you tell you may need a custom tune??
I have an aem sri with the piggy... but when im doing the petal to the metal action entering the highway i really notice the car takes forever to reach redline..
im thinking about purchasing the ud pulley to maybe help this problem out... but for the guys who have gotten a custom tune... do you ever notice this lag?

PIggy tune will be fine with most off the shelf mods. IT is only the guys playing with wierd t.b.s or high compression piston and such that would benefit from a custom tune.

this is true to a degree for most ppl it seems. some like DangerousDan has found the map to lean on his car, but most it came fine. i'm starting to go a little lean but i have way more mods then the map is tuned for out of the box. my car is not going to blow up, it runs great, but tweaking a few number i may get 4 or 5 more hp out of it. thats all
I'm not trying to stir trouble, but I have posted my AFR's with the RRM map in the piggyback maps sticky and with the mods that I have installed the car was lean on 93 octane fuel. The mods are posted at the top of the sticky, I will be sure to update them after I click reply on this page
This makes me nervous Rob, look what we can get off the shelf from you... that's not real close to what your base map was tuned to, at least according to the website.

no problem. I will call you this afternoon when I get off work. should be about 11 or so your time. I have one graph from that map, but I ordered the OBDII cable and Evoscan yesterday. I will be able to get you much better graphs next week so you can analyze them.
I want to make it clear that I don't think my car is going to blow up, or would blow up, with RRM's map. It was a little lean in a few places, which robbed me of some power, so I retuned it. My modifications are not the same as the ones the RRM piggyback was tuned for, and this is why the map was lean on my car, not to mention location, fuel type, temperature etc.
If you have more than a simple axleback and CAI setup you should be tuning ANY fuel controller to your specific car, that's just common sense. You wouldn't call someone for a mail in flash and not tell them the mods you have on your car, so why would you order a part that is tuned for someone elses set of mods and not retune it? I am sure if Rob thought harder about the number of things that are available off of his shelf he would have been more specific.
This is speculation, but I would guess that just the header and downpipe with no cat and factory catback section would show lean conditions with the base map.
The breathing is so restricted on the RA that as soon as you open it up it gulps air, thus needing more fuel. The base map provided was tuned for minor mods, and was tuned to a leaner map due to the restriction still present. I have removed (purposefully) ALL restrictive components in both my intake and exhaust, thus the lean condition with the base map.
