problem with my idle

About a weekago i woke up early and started my car to warm it up for about 5 mins and then i drove it. After a while i noticed at stop lights the cars idle would not be steady it would go to about 1000 rpm to about 500 rpm and want to stall out. btw my car is an automatic. i drove it around for a little bit and then when i got home i disconnected the negative battery cable cus i thought that it was the computer. but then i turned it on and it was still behaving the same way. Does anyone know whats wrong with my car. im going to the dealer a week from monday cus thats when i get home from school. I would just like to know what people think about this case?

Sounds like it could be a vacuum leak. Does it only occur on a certain HVAC setting? I have one that only happens on defrost so try so other settings lol.

have you tried idling in neutral? if it does the same thing it's not related to the tranny anyway. it does sound like a vacuum problem though. I have had some experience with that, using cheap silicone is not a good idea

using cheap silicone hose for vacuum hose is a bad idea. temperature extremes and oil don't mix well with the cheap stuff and any stress tends to tear it. the stock hoses are rubber anyway, so it should not matter unless you have changed stuff around.

It sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. If you don't know what vacuum is then definitely don't go trying to fix anything.

If you think it maybe vacuum related then run a smoke machine on it. Our cars should be a sealed system. Any leaks can mess with drivablity and idle of our cars.

Just getting to those vacuum hoses behind the intake manifold is a Foxtrot. I was having issues with the car stalling while driving, but it was something unrelated, a connection was bad in the interior fuse box and the connector that when into the starter's key came loose also.

another easy way to find vacume leaks is to get a can of carb cleaner and spray around a bit and the car will idle up when it sucks in the carb spray, if there is a leak but dont be to close to the intake youll get a falsh idle up

its a vacuum leak. Check your air-intake box and the connecting vacuum to it,make sure there is no leaks. I had installed my SRI on my car, and my SRI had a leak cuz the inner part was not sealed or there was a hole lol. My idle was weird like that, afta i sealed the hole- idle was fine

just a thought, how many miles you got on that thing? Have you adjusted your valves? If they are bad out, the car will not run as smooth or consistent as you would like...

Also, if the car has more than about 70K on it, think about cleaning out the Idle Air Bypass screw and ports... They get a little bit of carbon buildup over time...

valve lash needs to be adjusted every 30k according to your manual.
