Clutch

Has anyone had problem with here clutch? I have 40000 KM's / 25000 Miles on the car and my clutch is shot or so mitsu tells me. I just had my release baring replaced and when they had the tranny apart they said the clutch and flywheel are f'ed. Just wondering if anyone elses clutch went this soon?

Nope, our clutches do quite well. I pulled my just before 90,000 miles and it was in fantastic shape, as was my flywheel. It could be your driving.

I just roasted a 30k clutch on a RA last night. We were taking the car for a road test to verify this new engine management scheme works properly with the large injectors and the customer was like "wow I'm getting rubber in 3rd" I was like feels like clutch to me. Shortly thereafter I was like "smells like clutch too".

I've been discussing building an aftermarket clutch for the RA today. Trouble is many aftermarket offerings significantly increase the amount of load on the crank and you end up destroying your thrust washers on the crank - not a cheap thing to fix.

I never really drive the car hard or drop the clutch. Ya I do have fun in the sometimes but not to the point that the clutch is going. It doesn't slip yet or anything. When they changed the release baring they said it was covered in clutch dust. They should it to me and it was really loaded with blue dust. But the thing is that I never smell anything and the car drives fine. I do have another problem with the tranny that it grinds almost everytime I shift into and out of 3rd gear. At 50 to 70 KM /hour, Mitsu says they can't get it to do it for them but Its there and bad. I think is the syncro, they have already replaced the 2nd gear one. But who knows.

81,000km's and mine is slipping, sounds like that is far too soon but it isn't supposedly covered by warranty - though I will try to get it replaced under warranty as it really does seem ridiculous to be going already, its mostly my wife driving with the baby in the car and me when I am back from work for about 5 days or so. She is pretty tame and steady. Dead sexy though.

Ya me to never very hard on the car. Mitsu said there not coving it under warrenty because it a wearable part. Thats fine but it still is way to earily for it to be going. ANd man they want a boat load of cash to fix it. they quoted me 1900 for the parts and labour. So I order the RRM flywheel and stage 1 clutch and I have a shop that will install it. All said and done cost 1400 and the part a way better.

How is it I could get 90k out of mine, which includes runs on the drag strip and autocrossing, yet everyone else is only getting 60% of that? Mine wasn't even slipping yet, I changed it in the spirit of preventative maintenence. I've decided that you all suck at driving.

While possible could also be a crappy/defective part.
