urgent help needed!! (oilpan issues)

hey all i need help and i think my dealership is bullshi**ing me:

i took my car in for an oil change 3 months ago and the dealership told me i needed an oil pan b/c it was damaged (its dented below the oil plug - i never ran over anything so i dont see how that can be)...

i brought my car in this past sat. for another oil change and i didnt have a problem (no leakage at all!)... and as of wed. night, it was discovered that i had no oil in my car.. it leaked everywhere... so i took it back and they said its b/c of the oil pan but there's no cracks... my dad & b/f checked it out and they said the plug was stripped, and its leaking from the oil plug... the dealership isnt buying that and said i need a new oil pan period... i cant win with them...

so, where can i find a cheap oil pan online? are they easy to install? can someone help me out and give me directions on how to install the oil pan for our cars? .. my dad might do it for me but i just want to make sure everything goes smoothly and done correctly b/c our cars can be difficult to take apart...

the dealership quoted me $350+ for an oil pan & labor... thats a ripoff right?!! ..

my dad also said the mechanic probably 'cross threaded' the oil plug so that might be another reason why its leaking like this... i just need to know what to do .. im so stressed out! i dont even want to drive it anymore!

just move up to a bigger hole go to homedepot and get a single tap for an m14. what ever and get a bigger bolt no need to get a new oil pan if the hole is striped

for now just get SEAL ALL for a temp stop leak and get what u need to fix it your self or take it to ta shop and have them doit but like i said no need for a new oil pan unless ita that bad

If your dad is willing to save you about $225, mitsubishiparts.com has MN195078 ('04-'06 RA oil pan) for $126 plus shipping. If the hole is stripped and the pan is dented, I'd seriously think about replacing it.

To prevent cross-threaded plugs in the future, consider a drain valve instead of a plug. No need to remove the valve, just open it and close it. I have had a Fumoto oil drain valve on my car for about 85,000 miles, and still love the toolless oil changes.

yeah thats bs if they changed the oil and stripped the bolt they should pay i know sti actually have a thing where they dont have plugs or bolts its a switch im not sure if they make one for evos but good luck oil pan is easy to take off just drain oil take all the bolts off the bottom of it make sure u have alot of card board oil will be leeking from the rods n pistons you can go to o'reilys or auto parts and get a tap like ralli said retap the hole or replace the only pan GL.

Our pan isn't hard to replace. Remove the center engine brace, then remove all the bolts holding the pan in. From there, you'll need a putty knife or something to cut through the sealant to break the pan free. Before installing the new pan, scrape off all the old gasket material, put down new stuff (gray high-torque gasket maker) and reinstall.

you could always do what i do after the job is done. I wrote a letter to mistubishi's main office, 5 months later i had a check in the mail for 720 dollars for my cv shaft. even if the stealership doesnt want to pay you back, the company sure wants to keep you buying there cars!

well if ur gonna take off the pan u can beat the dent out to sooo you really dont have to spend alot on this, you could use an expansion plug, lots of options for that but i would save ur money unless its causing alot of probs besides leaking.

dont get me wrong fixing it the right way would be to get a new pan and i would be quoting otter but dont fix whats not compleatly broken just fix it back to how it was if possible.

thanks for the replies everyone..

well my dad took it to his shop and put my car on the lift..

turns out they cross-threaded the plug and my dad said the mechanic put it in on an angle.. (which the dealership totally denied)

so i have the plug, and my dad replaced it with a self threading one.. no leaks!!

on tuesday we are both going there and raising hell!! im gonna yell at them for deceiving me, harassing me and threatening me. im also going to tell the manager of that place that im calling the better business bureau and im telling them they just lost a customer b/c im never going there again.... then i plan on writing a letter to the main office...

what is their address??!! .. i want to talk to the freakin president of mitsubishi!! this was such an inconvienence to me.. i had to leave work early, the $30 oil change was a rip off, and i had to buy oil to put in my car... my dad is a busy guy and the last thing he wants to do is fix one of my problems.

im so pissed off that they lied to me and tried every way possible to get me to buy an oil pan when that wasnt the problem.. the problem is the mechanic.. he f***ed it up and the dealership should definitely give me something out of this... who knows if that's gonna happen though... im relieved that I figured out what the problem is, but i dont know how things are gonna go when i go there tuesday... its not going to be pretty!!

They'll probably offer you a free oil change or two.

Go straight to the owner of the dealership don't waste your time with the mutts in the service department again. In this case a letter would be the best start maybe not the most gratifying but more productive in the long run shoot for a new oil pan and maybe free car washes for life.
