removing the mivec

Not sure if this has been covered or not but just throwing an idea around. has anyone disabled the mivec switch over and what results did you find...

Reason for this is that seeing as I am selling my car for a Evo 7 I have removed the turbo setup from the car and somehow managed to disconnect the MIVEC so there is no switch over, now the really unusal bit is that I am not sure if the car is running on the non mivec cam or the mivec cam lobes... the car idles nice but has plenty of power all the way thru and seeing as I was driving a turboed car for so long it is hard to remember what it felt like to make a comparison as to which lobe the car is running at. I know the best way would be to dyno it and compare dyno sheets but I can't be bothered

So has anyone ever done this deliberately and found any real benifits from doing this.

Chowe, do you have the CEL (check engine light) on? The ECU checks the operation of the MIVEC system, and will throw a code and the CEL if it's not working properly. This has been one of the main hurdles in finding a MIVEC controller.

unless it's cutting fuel at ~5000 then you are likely just used to feeling the mivec switchover with your turbo it will idle like crap on the mivec lobes, and will cut fuel if the ECU detects the mivec system is malfunctioning.

Ahh good point that was something I had not thought of (CEL) I have not got the CEL so that must mean like you said everything is fine then and I was just way to used to the exagerated MIVEC/Turbo rush...
Cool so the car is perfect now and I am happy to sell car now... thanks guys for your help most appriciated.

you can really tell if is not working cause the car will still ajust the fuel but if the solinoid isnt pluged in or working it wont switch cam lobes and its just horrible feels like ur towing a front end loader

^ the car feels perfectly fine when running at both low rpms and high rpms I just don't feel the switch over like I used to... sometimes you feel a very slight surge but nothing like what I remember it to be like - but like others have said if it was not working there would be a CEL or the car would feel like crap. which none of these things are happening.

yes but no exact numer but its also hard to tell cause the rpm is was determins the oil pressure not like in Vtech were its controlled by physical oil pressure

FYI your cam only has one profile the MIVEC is a oil controled cam sprocket which will advance or retard timing. not change cam lobe like vtec..

oh, since it was still early en la manana and I am sure some people can't read sarcasm very well:

the following quote is 100% innaccurate for those of you who may happen to come across this thread while searching. if you want to know how the Mivec system works, keep searching because this guy is wrong.
