Clutch/Master Cylinder BS, need advice
Clutch/Master Cylinder BS, need advice
So I was driving today and I noticed that it was getting prgressively harder to put my car into gear. Eventually it got to the point where I could no longer put my car into gear with my clutch, and I had to rev match every shift just to get the stupid thing home.
I believe that what was happening was the clutch was not disengaging, since the drive shafts were still getting power even though the clutch was depressed. So here's my problem, what's wrong? My first thought before I got locked out was synchros, but it became clear that this wasn't the problem. My second thought was that the clutch had gone, but then it wouldn't be grabbing, and I would have the opposite problem. My third (and most plausible) idea was that the master cylinder had gone.
So when I got home I started inspecting, and I can't find any leaks with the master cylinder, and it is still engaging the clutch fork. But I don't know if it's engaging it enough.
So what do you guys think? Is it the clutch, the master cylinder, or is it something else?

It might not be pushing the fork completely. I had a friend who had a fork that was like 1/16 of an inch of engaging. I have these problems too with mine. Only when its cold. You may want to change the gear lube. Then again, It could be the clutch. You can also adjust the pedal and see if that helps.

Did you inspect inside of the car underneath the clutch master boot for any weepage out of the input seal? Any signs of leakage means it needs to be replaced. Inspect the the clutch fork pivot ball, I have seen some instantses where the ball never had lube and worn through the fork or even excessive play on the pivot ball causing inaccurate fork throw. There is a bunch more i can have you inspect but that requires more time. I would check those first. If you have any questions give me a buzz.
My first clutch master failed at 60K my second at 66K and I'm on my third one right now.
My car's in the shop, it needs to have 1st and 2nd synchro's replaced and a new throw out bearing installed. I switched over to a Works Stage 1 clutch at 46K miles.
Sorry for the vagueness I'm sort of in a crap mood right now since I have to find a used tranny or shell out for new parts galore.

I can't find any leakage/weepage anywhere. And how would I tell if the pivot ball was screwed?
And bruce, I'm sorry to hear that, but do you have any input about my question? I don't care if you're hijacking my thread, but since you have alot of experience with this (three clutches, your master cylinder), I thought maybe you would have some input?

Weird, I think my first post didn't get posted, but i responded, then decided to add a rant.. haha
Basically it asked..
When the car is off can you get in and out of gear?
Also check your fluid levels to see if you lost any fluid, that's the first sign to test for leakage because normally if you can't get into gear its gotta be a pretty big leak. Like for my clutch master, on the plate with 4 bolts holding it down, the brake fluid was spraying out of the seal as if it was a purfume bottle.
Have you tried adjusting the clutch pedal? It might have just worn itself enough to no longer grab. If you look up in the RA how-to section I wrote up a quick how-to on the clutch master for our cars.
Hope that helps.

Yea, I'm locked out of the gears when the car is on and I can get into gear when the car is off.
The gears were notchy in the morning and slowly got harder and harder to get into gear. Eventually, by the end of the day, the only way to get the car into gear was to rev matching while moving, and turning the car of when stopped.
When I was driving, if I pushed the clutch and hit the gas, the drive shaft was still get power.
