Starter Motor Wire

I need to replace my positive battery terminal and starter motor wires connecting to that terminal. Our cars have the odd looking pos terminal. Would an everyday terminal from Autozone work as a replacement or I do need to getsomethign specific from the dealer? Also what gauge wiring do I need for the stater wires?

As far as the terminal yes a replacement one will work just make sure all the wires they come off go back onto it. Get the one that has a wingnut and a stud on top..,

all you need to do is un bolt the large nut on top and swap that over to the new terminal you dont have to cut any wires

as far as the starter wires what do you need?? to replace it or just want to fix it? i think its 4 or 6 guage

I need to replace them. I know there are two wires for the starter. Is there a specific set I should buy?

normaly there is only one larger wire and a smaller one for the starter solinoid( smaller) and one for the starter main power left on the solinoid( larger).

Smaller wire 12-16 guage ( s-terminal) middle top of solinoid

Larger 4-6 ( m-terminal) left side of solinoid

As far as making sure you choose the right wire if you choose to small of a wire for the starter motor it will burn up. so you cant really go to large just stick to what i said

as for the relay its just some "normal" size wire , with a flat tab connector but you would be best to cut the plug and solder it back into the new wire cause i dout the problem is in the plug if any

I thought the B terminal went to the battery? One more thing, you said for the S terminal to use 12-16 gauge wire, at most auto stores they rarely stock anything over 10 gauge wire. Is there a reason for that ?

most auto stores should definitely have something smaller than 10 gauge. I work at Napa and we stock everything from 22gauge all the way up to the big 1/0 gauge. Remember smaller the number bigger the size wire, larger the number smaller the size wire (in case you got confused)

The one terminal is not connected because of the solenoid switching the starter motor on and off when the current passes through the motor. You'll notice on the one terminal it's already wired into the motor and you make your connection on the opposite side. Starter is grounded through the trans.

B-terminal: 4 gauge wire
S-terminal: 12 gauge wire

Is this correct?

12 gauge for the s-terminal might be a bit big, shouldn't need more than maybe 18 gauge, its only a 12v switching source

I just checked, on the RA the S-terminal wire doesn't go to pos battery terminal. It seems to route to the fuse box. Hmm the tricky get trickier. Is

B- terminal is not used replace B with m, and m and your good to go

Can i ask why you feel the need to change them? are they broke? if so how?

The wire goes into the fuse box because its on a Relay ( switch) so it does not always give power to the wire hope that helps

There's something going on with my starter wires. I My car has intermittent start issues. I had my starter replaced and my car still starts intermittently. Oddly enough the mechanic noticed that the S-terminal wire going to the starter looked frayed. He said that may have been the problem. I tightened it down and it worked for awhile but it still happens occasionally. I'm just gonna replace the wires to rule out that variable.

gotcha

Might be the relay that controls the s-terminal cable happens all the time

i would only cut the wire and replace it after the dmg part not the whole thing
