Question Magnaflow Question

I've done the search and didnt exactly find what I was looking for. I have a 2004 Lancer Ralliart and just now decided that I wanted to mod it, I wanted to start off with a muffler. I purchased a Magnaflow part number 11256 with a inlet/outlet of 2.5, with the plans of doing a straight pipe 2.5 pipe from the cat all the way to the exhuast, but as I've searched I've noted that 2.5 straight pipe doesnt work to well with our cars. I don't want to lose low end torque but do what a more deep tone to my exhuast, a little performance gain would be nice, but not realistic with just an exhuast.

So my questions are:

Would it be ok to do a 2.25 straight pipe into a a 2.5 inlet on the muffler?

Would the sound I want to achieve better with the resonator in or out?

on a personal note, this seems like a great website, I've tried others and this site by far is the most informative

uh... yeah by straight pipe you mean get rid of the cat right? or else you're just doing a regular catback from the sound of it as you said from the cat all the way back...

i'd say 2.25 piping is best with the 2.5 tip and i dont believe you need a resonator as long as you keep the cat.

do you mean a 2.5 inch pipe from the header all the way back or do you mean you want a 2.5inch pipe from the header with no cat (Str8piped)
and just the muffler? unless your car is turboed or going to be turboed i wouldnt do that with no cats and no resonators you might get a loud raspy sound. the stock pipe is 2.25 i have the stock pipe and magnaflow 14829 on from the cat. back with the cat and resonator in. if you have the $ and want the best sound then get the 2.5 inch pipe buy a header or downpipe combo from rrm and order the high flow cats from rrm if you want the most outta your exhaust N/A

My intention at first was to do a straight pipe after the cat thinking the our cars had a 2.5 inch pipe stock and so already order a magnaflow with a 2.5 inlet, since I already purchase the muffler was checking to see what members think about doing a 2.25 straight pipe into a 2.5 muffler

I was under the impression that the rrm pipe was 2.25.

seriously OP you're confusing the hell out of me. When you say straight pipe I'm under the impression you're doing a cat delete otherwise you're doing a normal catback exhaust

Most NA guys here run 2.25 with a 2.5 muffler

Correction....2.125 is stock. Yes 2.25 woudl be a good upgrade for basic N\A stuff. I'm planing to upgrade to the street performer cam so I will be going from 2.25 to 2.5

Sorry was applying the whole "straight pipe" to deleting the resonator, but found my answer in your last statment... thanks

Nope. www.turboimport.com Quietest muffler on the planet w/o sacrificing power. The designed of the muffler is hybrid turbo. I know that sounds like some made up crap, point be it's quiet and of very high quality.

^1 looks great... too bad I don't really have the cash flow for it, hard to have the mod bug for two cars at the same time LoL.....

anyways had the muffler install today....

kept the stock piping with resonator, only changed out the muffler and glad to report that I am please with the results, its a deep tone, no rasp, and quiet.... close to stock, but with a bit more of a rumble..pretty if you were to put a megaphone to the stock muffler.... best part, it doesn't feel as if I have lost any power, as far as gains, minimal I say, may just be me hitting the gas a bit more.... better then losing low end torque

To clarify, the stock exhaust is 2.125 OD, which means that with a wall thickness of 1/16, technically the pipping is 2".
