Making my own thermal spacers

Gentlemen,

I have decided to venture into the quest of making my own thermal phenolic spacer for our intake mani. Question is does anyone have a spare intake mani gasket and throttle body gasket they could donate? I'd def post pics and results of course.

EGR shouldn't bee too much of an issue. Turbo cars (Evo) run significantly hotter than our cars do, plus the material that I plan to use holds to about 500. plan to have this CNC machined by my roommate for precision.

Thats because us evo guys disable our egr in the ecu, and block it off at the valve. Sometimes even this isn't enough and they still distort. It's best to tap and plug or weld the port in the head so the exhaust gas doesn't "come in contact" with the intake manifold.

We 4g69 guys just got a reflash available to us and i'm not sure Hackish has even considered disabling the EGR. I have yet to hear of EGR issues from guys using the RPW gaskets, but now you have me thinking.

Disabling it will hurt fuel mileage a little, but you won't dirty *** exhaust gasses being routed in your intake manifold and coating the inside with soot.

Pretty much everything is always a trade off.

Not even sure any vendors make a block off plate for our cars. Nonetheless this is still something I want to do. I already have the material selected. Before I purchase it I just need some gaskets for templates. I'll be damned if I pay 170+ for gaskets to get shipped from Australia.

Well if your roommate has access to a CNC mill, then it should be a cinch to make the block off plates.

Do you remember the thickness of his gasket? And did your OEM bolts go back in no problem?
