conversion to manual tranny...tired of being AUTO and TURBO...

hey guys i have been kind of lost thanks to work and college but I'm back into business...just went to dyno last week with the ra...i installed a precision turbo intercooler, the smallest one (up to 350 HP...my friends subaru sti had it and he has 458 HP on it so i assumed it was way better than the EBAY one i had before)...the precision turbo intercooler is 3.5 inch thick so i had to modify a little bit the front bumper...so the thing is that with 9.5 psi I just did only 240 HP...these numbers honestly sucks for me...i was expecting more HP...don't know whats happening to the car but something is weird...the fist dyno after the turbo build up i did 238 @ 8 psi...then i went a second time and did 225 @ 9 psi and after installing the precision intercooler 240 @9.5 psi...so im kind of confused about the car right know...the AFR is @ 10.0 which also sucks...i need to buy an adjustable FMU regulator to reduce some gasoline flow and maybe head up to an 11.3-12.0 AFR or buy a haltech platinum or a megasquirt...my friend have a similar setup with an EBAY turbo (i have a garret journal bearing t3/t4 hybrid) and he put 275 @ 8 psi...i know i'm auto tranny and he is manual but i'm pissed because i have spent more money than him and he still have more HP ...on the street he pulls like 2.5 cars from me...what i was thinking guys was to change the tranny and probably these would help me a lot...i need a list of stuff that i need to buy to do this conversion so please people i need your help...also let me know what you think about this...i would also like a reflash but guys here @ PR still have issues and haven't finish it so this also sucks...COMMENTS PLEASE PEOPLE...i need your help...

My cars turbo automatic like yours, so I understand your feelings in regards to the transmission. To be honest, I really don't see the point in doing the swap. I'd spend the money building the transmission, or at least strip the turbo kit and sell/trade the car for a 5 speed ralliart if it matters that much. The cost of the swap just isn't practical, and finding everything you need will suck unless you have a 5-speed parts car to directly swap everything over from.

I think you should really look into finding a solution for your fuel/tune issues before making a decision on the transmission. Regardless if your cars auto or 5-speed the fuel issue will still remain, and thats robbing you of power.

I'd agree, you'd be better off at investigating a trans build from a shop, more turbo friendly gears, stronger. Our transmissions are suited for a N\A, not turbo.

The swap will take some good fabricating and whatnot. Not worth it IMHO.

It is correct, nothing shifts faster than a well built automatic. Many, many years ago, when I was a kid, I had a '68 Cutlass, 455ci, with a built turbo 400 trans. I had a B & M shifter mated to the trans with a B & M quick shift kit. I had a 2700 rpm stall converter on that SOB. I was running a 12 bolt rear end with 3.55 gears. You want to talk about a rocket off the line and a high 13 second car, this was it. Never missed a shift and was always fun to drive in traffic.

is the power you are comparing to at the same engine RPM? maybe because he's manual, he's able to reach the rev limit, and the automatic may not? i'm not sure exactly how the auto trans works and decides when to shift, but maybe the transmission can be "tuned" as well...
