SUBJECT:
M/T RATTLING NOISE AT IDLE PURPOSE
Some vehicles may experience a rattling noise coming from the manual transaxle ("neutral gear rattle") when the engine is idling. The noise may result from a damaged input shaft bearing, reverse idler gear, or clutch disc (due to clutch hub to input shaft spline wear). The noise is typically most noticeable when the A/C compressor engages.

Pulled directly from All Data. It seems that quite a bit of our tranny components are shared with the Evo tranny.

Once I can get the car in gear it moves forward slightly without letting off the clutch any.

And then it just disappears and drives all buttery until the next time it happens.. I've developed a neutral gear rattle on startup.. Ralliartize_it is that the TSB you sent me before having to do something with the AC compressor as well or is there another one I should be looking for? Hit me up if you can find that haha not like my dealer will take a glance at it any though. "derr whats a TSB derr"
Do not force anything into gear your syncros will be messed up bad it only takes once. My guess in your situation is a master or slave cylinder problem or even clutch pedal assembly but with OEM the clutch pedal assembly should be ok.

My new stage 1 from clutch masters arrives today so I'm going to hopefully get this sorted soon. In the mean time I stole my dads Cooper S for this week. I must say I'm really a boost junkie it's the S/C one and I must say I do like the no lag.

haha when I'm 3rd in line at a 3-way with 20 cars behind me on the way home from work I'm pushing it for the sake of getting my move on ha. It was really bad at one point though where I'd thought one of the two were shot. And then the problem just went away, car drives fine, all gears are buttery. I let the guys at work look at it, apparently they don't see anything wrong with my master/slave, one suggestion was there was air in one of the lines.. I'm thinking internal transmission components but I can't say the synchros are bugged.

And thanks Ralliartize it!!! I'd had one printed off from my pm's, buddy at mitsu service was like "this doesn't look official at all" .. he'd wanted to know which one I was talking about.. I'd had to tell him was TSB stood for.. I hate my dealer.

My new clutch arrived today so happy....I look on the outside YES ! Right part # so I get it open and what is in the box ???? An OEM Exedy clutch from a 96 Eclipse stuffed inside a clutch masters box.

So far Works has screwed me over. I ordered this time through a guy off of Club4G and I didn't know at the time he was buying the clutch through Ultra Rev who is the same company who screwed up my flywheel order back in 08 when I went turbo..... I'm just laughing now because this is just such an EPIC fail boat I'm on now.

If anyone is deciding to buy a clutch and flywheel please buy directly from the manufacture even if you have to pay more. The down time from these problems is just brutal.

Update

I'm back on the road, got a stage 1 clutch from clutch master and I'm happy that the pedal effort isn't like the stage 3 because my left leg was a full inch bigger than my right.

I also got a lightened flywheel from Fidanza installed and it's not that bad I thought it would be a real ***** to drive but I got right into traffic right away after picking the car up and it was no problem.

I also got my tein coilovers installed

So a month later and a lot of $$$$ later I'm good to go....knocks on wood.

That's good to hear, hopefully you don't run in to any more issues. I was talking to someone about picking up their stage 3 for next to nil and according to him "it only made the master cylinder bleed out once or twice" ... kinda not stoked over that. So not looking in to that guys clutch anymore haha. Off topic here but could you possibly send me an audio clip of your ultimate racing catback? I'd like to buy an exhaust within our border and that's the only one I could discover specifically.
