Gas sensor is off?

I'm having a problem with my gas sensor I think? Everytime I'm parked on a hill or my car is parked to one side, my gas goes down to empty and it doesn't go up unless I leave my car on for about 10-15 minutes on idle on a flat surface. When I'm driving 65+ my gas seems to go down to empty but I know I still have about 3-5 gallons left in my gas tank. Also I could refill my car up with 10 bucks worth of gas and my gas will still read "E" what might be causing this problem? Is there a wire that's messed up or do I need a new fuel pump?

Your pump doesn't affect the gauges reading.

Check your fuel level sending unit. Other than that, it has to be the gauge unless the Evos have some sort of crazy way to run the gauge.

It's a lancer not an evo. lol. I don't know if it's different or not but so you think it might be that fuel level sending unit you're talking about? How do I check that?

The fuel sending unit houses the the fuel pump. Under the back seat. We use the same unit as the 2.0 non turbo lancers. Ou get get a replacement from any of those vehicles.

So if there's a lancer that still has the whole fuel tank in tacked, and I take the fuel tank off, would that fuel sending unit still be there with the fuel tank? Then could I just take that off or switch fuel tanks?

more like just take out the backseat and take the sending unit from the other lancer instead of taking the whole tank

If you took out your back seat (very easy), you will see the top of them fuel tank. There are six 8mm bolts holding the fuel sending unit in place. Unscrew and pull out.

Reminder - no smoking.

New gasket wouldn't be a bad idea also. Don't want random gas leaking anywhere

It's deff the sending unit. Mine went out once. Once the gauge hit 3/4 tank it would plummet to E.

If I get it off another ralliart, would I use that gasket? Or the same one I have if not where can I get another one?
