belt tensioner

now that it has been cold out side, every time I start my car up I hear a ticking noise coming from the belt/pulley area. After about 2 minutes after it warms up the noise goes away. I was thinking about replacing the tensioner. Does anyone know how to remove the tensioner? I found this one on rockautos site (http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1330613)

also does anyone know of a good serpentine belt to purchase also?

thanks in advanced!

If my memory serves me correctly, it's just the center bolt, and another smaller one.

The belt, being what it is, just get whatever replacement, and buy 2, so i have one as a spare. It's not a timing belt, i wouldn't worry about quality too much.

What makes you think it's the tensioner? have you check for proper tension? You measure belt deflection.

I played hockey after work, lol, sorry for the delay. I was correct, there are two bolts, i believe on the oil filter housing...the long center bolt on the tensioner is 33 +/- 6 foot pounds, and the smaller bolt is 17 +/- 2 ft-lb

Thank you very much!!!

One more question. Anything special i should know before un doing these bolts? Is is as simple as taking off the 2 bolts dropping it down and then screwing the new one in?

Didnt see your other question sorry... I am not totally sure. Just kinda assumed it is the tension. I replaced the belt alittle bit back and it didnt fit the squeak. I just got the tensioner in today. I will let you guys know how it goes. You said there are 2 bolts? I only see the main center hole on the new tensioner...

iirc, the second bolt is under the lower timing cover, either that, or it holds the tensioner AND the timing cover. The lower timing cover is somewhat of a pain in the *** to remove.

Installed the tension yesterday! It went super good. The hardest part was holding the tensioner back with one arm and un-doing the belt. "Crankswick" It ended up just being 2 bolts. The main center bold and a bottom right bolt that went through the oil filter housing. Everything is running good, and my squeaky bearing is gone. Thanks guys for all the help!!

raising a thread from the dead because my car squeals every so often and its driving me insane.

how often do the serpentine tensioners need to be replaced? i'm going to be replacing my belt soon and i'm not sure whether or not i need to do the tensioner as well

make sure it's the tension causing the problem, it could be a blown bearing in a pulley causing the belt to slip on it.

i was thinking of replacing the idler pulley and tensioner along with the belt. not sure what else could be causing the squeak cause the water pump is new and i dont think my alternator is an issue?

my car is at 130k miles and on the original tensioner and idler pulley so figured might as well swap them out unless they're supposed to last longer?
