Hey guys, I need an honest opinion here, how does the Ultimate Racing exhaust kit with resonator sound? Is it loud? I am looking for a performance upgrade, not a ringing in my ears and a constant announcement of my arrival. Keep in mind that in addition to my ralliart, I also drive a '67 Nova that pulls high 11's. I can't stand loud-*** imports that make that ultra annoying "ricey" sound but still can't break into the 14's. If this mod adds more noise than power, then I will opt for the intake only. Thanks for your honest input.

Well, I've driven the demo car w/ the entire package on it...and IMO it sounds nice. Deep not raspy....and from inside the car its non intrusive. I'd say if you got the coin and want to have it shipped then go for it....it also doesn't LOOK like a "fart can" either.... I'd give it a

I've test-driven an RA, Personally I liked the sound and don't think I'd touch the exhaust, unless I'd get some good-*** gains without sounding like a ricer-rocket...

I have been considering intake upgrades, I'll probably just go K&N filter when I get my RA, but the SRI is tempting too...but to look at the pics on Ultimate I don't see how it would be effective. It sits right over the hot engine...how's that better then the stock air box that has a lead from the front of the engine compartment...which the saleguy at the Dealer tried to pass off as a "cold air intake"...either that or he confused "cold air intake" with "air intake"

and now for perhaps the stupid question...pics of CAI's I've seen here have the pipe leading down to the bottom of the car, why not just direct it to the same rough position of the stock air box?...that location would make sense to me for bringing in cold air, as it's infront of the engine...only problem I see with the stock air box bringing in hot air is from the box itself getting up from the engine, and thus warming the air in it...but then I haven't examined the whole set up for more then 5 min at the dealer...

Oh man...but the time May get's here I'm gonna have all my mods planned out...hehe

Thanks for the input guys. Did you, or do you know of someone who tested RRM's CAI and Piggyback system alone before upgrading to Ultimate Racing's exhaust kit to test gains achieved by the exhaust alone? I am curious to see how much $490 in exhaust can really unlock in HP. Also, is there any welding required, or does the exhaust bolt up?

Just go to any exhaust/muffler shop and get them to build you an axle back for a hundred or so.

Thanks, I think I will do that. Do you happen to know if they are in the shop on fridays? I will be driving down to OC from SB friday afternoon. Maybe I can get a sneak peek at some of the upcomming works in progress (ie. Turbo! ).

Also, a couple more questions: What do you think the difference would be between the cat back system from Ultimate Racing, including resonator, and RRM's axle back kit? I ask because U.R.'s is .25 inches bigger than RRM's. It seems that the bigger pipes would kill a bit of low end horsepower. What is stock size from the cat back, by the way?

Thumbs up

Hey guys,

Sorry, I didn't know this post was around.

For the most part, the intake is a "short ram" because these products were contracted by a Mitsubishi dealership. For Canadian guys, these parts must be purchased through the dealership. They will install and warranty the product.
No dealer around here will ever warranty a cold-air intake.

The price one of you guys got quoted sounds unreal. Perhaps call back and speak to someone else. It sounds like whoever you spoke to at the dealership wasn't really familiar with the product.

As well, please don't compare our exhaust system to a "bent" exhaust that a local muffler shop can build for you. Really that's comparing apples and oranges. Ours uses cast stainless steel mandrel bends which ensures a consistent diamter throughout the entire exhaust system.

Thanks!

Darryl

The quote I got from the dealer WAS in fact wrong. However, I have confirmed w/ the dealer the new price of $1200 installed.

Still not too bad considering its from a dealer and you retain your warranty.
