Help Please need an 04 ralliart Tranny

My mechanic is tryna charge me $1500 to fix my gearbox because he says I need a brand new one, is this a good price or am I being ripped off, he says everyone selling the ones I need are charging $1000 and up

Bs that's not the price, unless your getting a new clutch and/or flywheel too. Go online and research about doing it yourself , gather the tools and parts and tackle it on a Friday. So you will have the whole weekend although I think a even an amateur should be able to do it in 5 hours. It not hard just time consuming. Also checkout car-parts.com for the trans.

I see prices from $300 - $1300 for used gearboxes on mypartshop.com in NY.
If you consider that it is time consuming, $1500 does not seem bad to me, remember your mechanic has to eat too.

Good luck.

$1,500 won't get you a brand new mitsubishi transmssion first of all, secondly, it would help to know what's wrong with it, cause you might not even need to replace it...and third, if you do need to replace it for whatever reason i wouldn't pay more than $500 for it, and it should only take an afternoon to replace if you have all the right tools...
