No diamond needed. We use carbide at my shop. An titanium makes for a fun bonfire sometimes lol.

Carbide cuts titanium.
Aluminium is strong enough if built right. Some aircraft are made of completely aluminium....

I would think that just finding the best areas to remove material to save weight would be significantly more cost effective than starting from scratch with a lighter material.

yes and no it depends on which way the forces act on the part

It would be nice to if you make some power steering and alternator pulleys that are smaller so they spin faster

But then they'd be a higher load on the engine no ?

I don't think so... same load but idk it would contradict the purpose of being underdriven right

not really...it's the same concept as race cars wanting lighter wheels really... they're the could be the same identicaly size, BUT lbs lighter. the engine wont have to work as hard to turn them, making the engine spin up that much faster.

We're addressing 2 different ideas.

Roblaza is keeping the crank pulley at stock diameter and making it lighter.
Racer X Ralliart is suggesting smaller (which I interpreted as diameter) accessory pulleys.

If you decrease the diameter of the accessory pulleys while keeping the crank pulley as OEM, how is it that you do not end up with a higher parasitic load on the engine ?

I meant if he does a smaller diameter crank pulley to make the smaller diameter accessory pulleys.. The only way you would put a higher load is if you were to increase the power of the magnets in the alt.. Going to a smaller alt pulley will just increase the voltage output it will kill the brushes faster but if you go lighter say the stock is 1lb and you make it .5 that's less weight the crank has to turn the only reason I would suggest a smaller alt pulley is if the crank pulley is smaller in diameter otherwise just make it lighter

the reason i want to keep the pulleys the oem size is because alot of engineering went into the proper diameters so that everything runs perfectly at idle and doesn't over charge or spin to fast and kill bearings and other components. If i was to downsize one thing then personally id want everything downsized other then the idler and tensioner to some sort of ratio so that everything spins the same but is smaller. I would think that decreasing the size of everything wouldn't be a bad idea but im not sure how to figure out the proper ratio or size for each component also the alt pulley is fairly small to begin with im not sure how much smaller i could make it.

Let me know if you still need the pulley. I'd be willing to sell you mine. I also would be interested in a full light weight pulley kit. That would be pretty awesome to see. Good luck with this!
