Making my own Light Weight Crank Pulley

So to graduate from my engineering course i need to complete a technical report. Im thinking about designing a light weight crank pulley for our 4g69 that is not an under drive since there are none available for our car.
-Would anyone be interested if i can actually design something that works and is reliable and has undergone testing?
-Also does anyone have a stock pulley that i could buy or have since i dont want to remove mine for the time being :P
Thanks Rob

I'd be possibly interested In a lightened one... Provided it gets thoroughly tested and won't fubar any bushings ect...

How about a multiple lightweight pulley kit?

CNC machining is quite expensive, its gone up more than double in the past 5 years. But check club4g.org fs section I saw an oem crank pulley there not to long ago.

Which is your design approach to lighten the stock pulley?
a) simply changing to something common and less dense, like say, aluminum
b) stay with steel but use FEA to help determine where to remove material so stresses in the wheel are uniform and below allowable strength/fatigue levels
c) lighter material and intelligent material removal
d) costs be damned, the most suitable exotic material will be used

Titanium was 12 bucks a pound in 2005 now it's 70 bucks a pound, machining it would shoot the price up for sure since harder cutting materials would be needed.

i use to work at a small cnc shop so i can probably ask them for some help with that, as for the club4g all i have ever seen are underdrive which i dont want. But for roblaza yeah i would test it mad because it would be part of my project, also if i wont trust it on my car i wouldnt sell it to anyone else

I was thinking along these lines too. What is your plan for the project so far?

lanzeralliart is right titanium is a pain to machine i think u need diamond tips or really good ceramics at least for that but i could be wrong. But if u want it ill do it :P

sorry i didnt reply sooner i missed this.
a) aluminum i think would be to soft so i would avoid that but also look at the engineering side and see if it can hold up to the forces if it can then aluminum could be an option,
b) this was my initial idea use an oem to get all my sizes and then using cad and good old math determine where and how much i can remove to light weight it. and then do some stress test see if it can hold up to the forces and if it does i will do two dyno runs on my car (before after) see if it helps at all. wishfull thinking says +10ish hp if im lucky :P and bit better throttle response.
C) yes if lighter material is strong enough and lighter then the original
d) will see lol i might make a gold plated one for fun if i was that rich :P

thanks rob

i was joking, i know how expensive that stuff is, i don't want a $400 crank pulley
