Thinking about RR CAI? Read this FIRST!
All,
I just wanted to provide a little feedback about the RR Cold Air Intake. I have purchased this and installed it on my car. Few things to keep in mind if you are planning on ordering this:
1. You have to remove plastic sheilding from the bottom of your car. Not sure I like this Idea but i did it anyways to get it installed.
2. The instructions are pretty good until you get to the part where it says to remove the plastic guards under the car. I had trouble figuring out witch guards they were talking about. There is a VERTICAL guard that MUST be removed in order for this part to fit. I dont like the idea of that!!
3. I dont really see to much improvment in HP in the car. Although, we just got a big snow storm and i have not been able to gun it the way i want to, but still I dont feel that much difference. I am debating on wether it increased or decreased the HP.....
4. At about 3700 RPM you really hear either the MIVEC or the air circulating in the CAI. Its a really nice sound that gets looks. People will commonly mistake this for a super charge, because it produces a similar sound.
5. WARNING!!!!
I now have a popping sound comming from my car after the install. Happens every time i put the car into 2nd gear. So far all I can think of is, it's the air filter tapping the plastic molds underneith the car. THIS WAS NOT THERE BEFORE. Im not sure yet if it's a problem or only a bother. When i warms up I will look at it again to see.
6. The K&N air filter they give you with the CAI is VERY VERY VERY small. I have had other CAI's on other cars before and the filter was always BIG. Im thinking about replacing it for a bigger filter. Maybe this will show more HP with the bigger filter to intake more air. I have sent an email to Road Race asking about the diameter of the filter and if I can install a bigger on, but I have yet to hear from them.
7. This product was VERY difficult to install, due to the bad instructions on what plastic guards to remove under the car, and the fact that it fits so tightly in place, it's very hard to get the CAI to line up properly. It took me over 2 hours and 4 friends to get this installed. I have also sent an email to RR about the instructions, asking them to include a pic of the plastic parts you are supposed to remove from below the car, for future customers benifit. So if you get the CAI and you have pics of the plastic under the car to remove --- Your welcome----
This is the results of my experience with the overall product and installation. I hope that others will not have so many problems installing theirs.....
Just an FYI, im not degrading RR or the CAI, im just letting you guys know the problems i have had, so you can look out for them yourself if you order the CAI.

Also, it doesn't just happen to the RR cai, I have a aem cai on my 2003 OZ and I've to remove the guards in order to install the cai as well, doesn't bother me that much.

And if the step of removing the plastic guards is where you got stuck 'cuz of the instructions, I had the same problem, and if it wasn't for Kareem who's more experienced and figured it out earlier, I would have given up the process and changed everything back to stock after staring at the instruction for 6hours...
