octane rating
what do guys put? i'm currently doing 92, cause a guy told me that 94 its not that good for my car, and i had my starting problems...what do you guys think?? some people said 89 is enough...
my car happens to require premium, but i use(d) premium in every car I own(ed) and/or drive. That happens to be 93 in NC. Higher octane will always make your car run better. Better combustion=more hp...
If you got the dough for it, I'd say always use premium.

heh, I use 87. There is hardly any advantage to higher octane unless you have FI. With FI you will get detonation if you run low grade fuels. But without FI there is really no reason to use 92 octane unless you have money to burn or have noticeable detonation. (which I highly doubt).
i have only been putting regular unleaded in since new. the dealer filled my tank with premium, that was a shocker, but i haven't noticed enough of a difference to continue paying the higher price. i don't however go to the cheapest place around town, i have always gone to chevron, texaco, or 76. chevron has always been my #1 choice.
I've tryed both Premium and regular in my RA...... To me it doesn't seem any different........until I think of the price difference.......then I would say it is better, or I'm burning my money away....literally!!!

Octane rating is NOTHING but resistance to predetonation (aka knock, ping or detonation). Any difference in fuel economy will be negligable if at all noticable.
So rather than spreading more misinformation let's get everybody on the same page.

those links are outside of this forum, no?
Try this link from earlier thread on Mitsu corporate white paper, they talk about MIVEC dev. and requirements...

Hobie is right, you dont need high octane unless you need the weight reduction for you wallet.
High octane is good for advanced timing and detination.
Advanced timing because it burns slower so it will burn for more of the stroke. If you dont advance the timing it might burn after the optimal point causeing WORSE performance.
It helps detonation because it is also HARDER to ignite higher octane fuel. So it will only ignite when the spark plugs says not when it wants from whatever is causing your detination. That is also why some of you have problems starting when cold.
