they say the optimum rpm to shift at is between 2000-3000rpm, this i meaning the best way to keep the engine in good shape and not to ***** it up.

if you shift at 2000rpms man youre gonna **** of everyone behind you....i mean shifting outta first at that rpm and you will only be going about 3mph!!! I'm sure it is less stress though

I think under normal driving ....most people shift their RA's between 3000 to 4000rpm......... But I can tell you this...... If you havn't put it up to or past 6000rpm at least once.......your missing out on Japanese engineering at it's best.

beleive me i have done more of my share of redline shifting in my RA but i was just curious what ya'll are doing. In fact, I've actually gotten my tires to chop thru two gears which aint bad in a stock rocket.

if i only knew myself through reading my posts, i would think i was an *** backwards pecker-wood who has no sense of spelling or grammar, who somehow managed to crawl out of the backwoods and buy a slick car.

I hope you didn't take my post the wrong way . I am sure your spelling and grammar are exceptional, we all make mistakes, unfortunatly I make many frequently. I just got a laugh from the way your post turned out, I was not laughing at you making a mistake, just the resulting post.

I just thought I should clarify because I would hate to make you feel bad/angry/etc.; next time I'll think before I post.

i want more gear

does antone else feel weird when your on the hiway and knowing that to stay at 70mph means running your engine at 3400 rpm. I'm use to my old car and at 70 i was at 2200 rpm. I know the lancer has a higher redline, but am is it still beating on the engine to stay at 3500 consistant or was it made to do this?

it is a little wierd seeing as how my parents old minivan that i bomb around in has 260,000 miles on it and it revs at 2000 at 70mph goin down the freeway. oh well i like the extra power in my MIVEC anyway.

I believe mitsubishi probably did do a lot of testing on the engine, but it still would have been nice to see a sixth gear or something. 3400 rpm for 70mph just seems like wasted gas and engine wear to me.
