Information before I boost my RA

I'm looking to turbo my 04 Ralliart. I know RRM sells a really popular kit, I'm mostly curious what the stock internals (Bottom end and top end) can handle boost wise. I have heard that the block is pretty much identical to the 4g63 so I wondered if they used the same internal parts. The car has 93k miles on it (99% sure its original motor, bought it about 3 or 4 months ago and have looked through all available service records.) And also if anyone has used the RRM kit what is the boost pressure set at by them?

I have the RRM kit. From them I think boost was set around 7 PSI at the wastegate. I run more boost though. If you go this route, I highly advise you look into alternative tuning methods other than what they provide.

There is a tuning shop not too far from where i live. R/T tuning, they are licensed by COBB so i might see what they can do too after i get the rrm kit and have them re tune it or something

Welcome to the forum unholy one.
Have you checked out any of the threads about turbocharging the 4G69 ?
They are quite informative.

Dont get the RRM kit. Its over priced and has poor tuning. Not to mention it involves adding a fifth fuel injector pre throttle body...

You can use Evo intercooler, piping, and blow off valve. Get a turbo, internally wastegated ones will cut down on piping. Have a manifold and downpipe made. Pick up Subaru 440cc injectors. Get Ottralliart or Hackish to tune it and your golden. If your shooting for more than 10psi you'll need APR head studs.

Ok, what do you mean by it adds a fifth fuel injector? Also Could I get COBB or my local tuning shop (R/T Tuning, licensed by COBB) to do the tune for it? And i might as well go get head studs and new head gasket since 10psi isnt that much imo, but ill probably wait and toy with it.

what he means is the kit does not come with new fuel injectors...it comes with one, I think it's like 1000cc/min or something like that and it mounts in the charge pipe before the throttle body, and uses a piggyback ECU to control it. From what I've seen, it runs pig rich on average, while starving #1 cylinder, I got my LSD and first stage 1 clutch kit from a guy that blew his motor with an RRM turbo kit. Another thing that bugs me, is the kit uses a knock-off 16g turbo, the same ones you buy for like $300. now lots of people use them with good results, but when you use a $300 turbo, you shouldn't be charging $4,000 for a kit...

As far as I know, COBB does not have a tuning solution for our ECU's...

Wow what a scam. That is idiotic. Well I'm extremely pleased I found this forum before just buying the RRM kit. I will have to look into pricing out everything he mentioned. And I will contact the guys at R/T tuning see if they are willing to play with my ecu for a turbo. Thanks aton.

Anyone correct me if im wrong but I think mike is the only one capable of tuning our ecu.. once he flashes your ecu you'll be able to bring it to your shop to get a dyno tune

I think the guys at R/T can do ours. I was on their Facebook page not too long ago and they had pictures of a Ralliart. Can't remember if it was an '04 or '09

I would be ready to bet anything that it was an 09+ model because they have a
Cobb AccessSport for those models. From what I understood our ecus are very complicated and Hackish is the only one to have unlocked them

Hack uses Fastworks its an all in one tuning suite. But its only supported by him. A lot of guys use this method because its been around longer.

OttRalliart paved the way that uses the same tuning software more Evo tuners use (ECU Flash, EvoScan). Only thing is where our ECU is picky you have to use MMC Flash to write to the ECU. So any tuner familiar with using ECU Flash to tune an Evo would know whats going on. Plus OttRalli gets his definitions from Merlin who has been tuning mitsus for ages and ages. I know he worked magic on mine!

Lot's of food for thought. Thanks guys. I'll have to plan this out more then I was expecting. I have another project I need to take care of before I do this. Thanks again.
