Circle Earth ground kit

I got my kit today. Found it on ebay. They are always on there for ~$18 (plus another $18 s/h!). Anyway, its a ralliart knockoff. However, I do have to say that it looks pretty good as far as knockoffs go.

But, performance wise, i didnt get it installed yet so i dunno. Here are my first impressions:

The good
Nice 1/4" solid brass or copper grounding plate.
Thick high-quality stylish wire. I guess its 4gu? heat shielded
Each wire mounts via a brass screw and nut.
Large thick brass M8x45 primary screw
Looks really good /w beveled ralliart sticker emblem
single piece shrink wrapped crimps

The bad:
the terminal points on the wires are aluminum or steel, not brass or copper
the batter terminal adaptor is aluminum, not copper or brass.

Over all, its a pretty good setup for what its worth. The wire lenghts came in the following:

2x 3'
3x 2'
2x 1'

im not sure if the 3' cables will reach allthe way to the other side of the bay, but it should be close enough to get some good ground points.

i will take some pics and give my impressions when i get it installed. ill also make a howto via the mitsu serivce dept's install docs.

I also picked one of those up, but still haven't gotten it installed due to the fact that the directions are nearly nonexistant. I cant wait to see your info up here.

Thanks for helping us all out.

Theres a kit on ebay for 41 bucks that you should look into. Just type in lancer ground wires. It is made specifically for the lancer and has all the instructions on the best grounding points and such. He put it on and his stock system was just as loud as my sun and sound system almost. It also made his headlights a tad brighter. as far as performance goes, you arent going to recognize anything. They are 4 gauge wires with gold plated connectors, good stuff imo.

I have the kit installed on my car. I will take pictures of where I installed it and post it. It's true, it improves the stock sound system. It also improve the amp/speaker system if you have one like mine. The headlight is a tad brighter. You basically creating a better grounding system in the engine bay. For those who think I'm joking or my finding is not what you find reasonable, blow me. I can care less if you even look at my post. Have a good day folks. Will post the pics as soon as I get home.

p.s I will also show that our stock tach is somehow affected by electrical wires. How did I find this out? I had a racing tach installed in my car a while back. The stock tach may read 3500 but the racing tach is reading 3K on the dot. Figure that out. <------off topic!

If it doesn't improve performance, at least it looks good in the car.

the mitsu kit comes with the following:

a clamp for the bolt of the existing ground cable
5 lenghts of wire /w circle adapters on the ends

from the main terminal, one short wire goes to the wall just to the right of the battery, under the electronics box (to the ight of the wire wrap).

also from the terminal, ones goes to the right side of the engine head. you have to take the plasic spark plug cover off (3 bolts). just under the air sensor tube to the right of the valve cover, and just right of the spark plugs, ther is a brass harness holding some crap. Just take off the upper bold and attach one cable here. Attach another cable here also. It will go to the bolt directly behind the mitsu logo on the valve cover, by the 2nd spark plug from the right. Another wire also comes from here and goes to the front left of engine head, by the oil cap. there is a brass engine lift. It goes on this bolt. Another wire comes off of this and goes to the left real wall, by the wire harness on the throtle.

Thats it!

But, the circle earth kits are NOT designed like this. Infact, this setup kinda sux. The weakest point in any of the wires is the weakest point in the entire system. Multiple feeds along multiple paths will distribute the ground better.

My setup isnt ideal, but I will post pics of what I did in a few mins.

I hope this helps!

I bought the cheaper kit from ebay a few weeks ago. You can see a picture of the set up in my profile. I have seen a slight difference in engine performance. The only reason I noticed it was because on my highway drive to work I try to keep my rpm's just under 3500 (better gas). Before the kit I was doing about 70-71mph at 3500rpm. After the kit I'm at 74-75mph at 3500rpm. I know it's not a big difference but it's still a difference. As far as the stereo and headlights are concerned I don't think I've noticed a change. I'm gonna try a different ground wire configuration to see if there is a difference.

Question: Does the wire config need to make a complete circle between all the points or can each ground point go directly to the battery?

Juste a note: with the ground kit installed, your engine is running at exactly the same RPM as before for the same given speed. Gear ratios dictate that, and those are mechanical parts that cannot be affected by electrical currents. What is changing is the way the RPM sensor operates (these are electromagnetic sensors).

So basically, the RPM sensor was tuned for the stock electrical system. When installing additionnal grounding points, you change the electrical setup (shorten ot lenghten certain grounding pathways) and thus get a false reading.

That means that you might now be running the engine at 3750 RPM when it reads 3500. Appart from the fact that your RPM is not that accurate anymore, it might also affect the cutoff point of the engine, since the ECU uses this data to shut the ignition off passed the preset red line point. It might not be a huge difference, but 250-300 more RPM at the red line is not the best thing for your engine. Unlike me, if you never get your engine near the red line, this is not a concern... and you're only left with the eroneous reading from the sensor (which is not such a big problem).

The grounding kit should improve high powered audio setups though, that's easy physics.
