Road Race Intake..?

For those who have used the road race short ram intake, they say it drops your 0-60 time anywhere from .8 to a full second.. is that accurate? i have a cheap intake, and it helped a tiny bit, but i'm thinking about upgrading to this intake, but i don't know if it's really worth the extra money.. what does everybody think?

no CAI is going to drop your 0-60 by anywhere near a full second. At best you may expect to pick up maybe .2, if you're lucky. What you can expect from a CAI is a smoother more linear torque curve, since the engine will struggle less for air at the low/mid rpm range.

My understanding is that the RA is the exception, and actually has a significant power gain from CAI and even SRI. The RA comes with the same intake box as the base lancers. That airbox is restrictive on the smaller 2.0 engine, which makes it *really* restrictive on the air-hungry 2.4 engine (especially when the valve change happens). I don't know if you'll get a full second (doubtful) but you'll get a noticable amount.

thanks a lot! you just sold me. i'll be getting it in november, so i'll let you know how it changes. i also already have a cheap high flow muffler on it, and it helped a little as well.

I know you asked about the short intake, but I put the CAI on my Ralliart first with no other mods and can say I felt a difference. About 3500-4000 rpm when the MIVEC kicks in, you can hear the air 'whoosing' in and the car seems to accelerate faster?!

Kinda cool... made engine much louder though if you don't mind.

You didn't want answers, you wanted someone to say what you wanted to hear...

Well heres something you probably dont wanna hear, I put the sri on my car, and in all honesty didnt recognize a thing. I mean I love RRM's products and their kick a$$ customer service, but the sri just didnt do anything for me other than make some noise.

I put the CAI on my ralliart and could tell a slight increase in acceleration. I didn't notice much difference though when I added the axle-back exhaust other than the sweet sound it makes.

Somebody's smoking crack again. Our 0-60 is aproximately 6.9-7.2, so lets just say 7 for simplicity. Let's examine cars near the 6 seconds range.

BMW 330i 225hp
Neon SRT-4 230hp
Mustang GT 260hp
RX-8 238hp
350Z 287hp
Porsche Boxster 225hp
VW R32 240hp

What do you notice about these cars. Unless you expect to gain 80-100 horsepower from an intake, you could have been lied too. Or perhaps confused. You would not only need an intake but atleast 20 stickers for sponsors that aren't actually sponsoring you to put on your car. That should get you the rest of the power.

In all fairness, all of these cars are heavier (some SIGNIFICANTLY heavier) than the RA is. It's not just HP, it's power to weight ratio that moves your **** down the tarmac. Having said that, it's going to take a lot more than a CAI to gain you a full second on the 0-60 figure.

You definately wont knock a full second off your 1/4 mile with just intake.

I love the RRM SRI. It looks pretty nice, and it sounds even nicer at higher rpms. I honestly think it definitely improved my car's performance. I'd totally suggest it, unless you're getting the CAI of course...

I'm looking into the SRI rather than the CAI just because it's fun to drive through the water I saw the RR short ram on their website too and wondered if it's worth the money for that rather than buying one for ~$40 on ebay. I don't expect a big improvement from just one mod, something small is good enough to start for me.

Question

Umm are u sure?

"My understanding is that the RA is the exception, and actually has a significant power gain from CAI and even SRI. The RA comes with the same intake box as the base lancers. That airbox is restrictive on the smaller 2.0 engine, which makes it *really* restrictive on the air-hungry 2.4 engine (especially when the valve change happens). Besides being enhanced with MIVEC, the 2.4-liter (4G69) engine has received a number of other mechanical updates that help it breathe

Intake. Several modifications were made to improve both efficiency and performance. Starting with the incoming air, the aluminum intake manifold's interior surface was smoothed to increase intake efficiency. The intake runners are also longer, and they feature a bell-mouth shape to reduce air intake resistance.

I dont think mitsubishi would go though all this trubble to just top it all off with a week 2.0 air box.

I made my own Cold air intake... All u need to do is go to a local muffler shop. MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A MANDRAL BENDER. Not sure if thats how u spell it. Than have them custom bend it for u. Work with them for good fitment. I used 4" pimping and had it powder coated red. I allso printed out a picture of one I saw a company make so i had a template to go by. than i went and got some heat tap and wraped the lower part of it becuse it runs down near your coolent lines. For the MAS i had to cut the stock air box. I used the short tube that the MAS was in the used some rubber pipe fittings to connect it all togeather. I had tryed it without the air box pipe and had the MAS rite in the 4" pipe and it didnt want to run rite. Thats why i used the small part of the stock air box.

I can tell a big differance with my custom CAI. It now revs faster and the MIVEC seems to pull harder once it kicks in and my car sounds evil when I'm going though the gears.
