Thumbs down crutchfield :(

well i ordered a deck from crutchfield... when i put in my car model i put 2004 lancer 4 door sedan with 7 speakers.... aparently, there was no RA option... so they sent me instructions for a normal lancer... which didnt have directions for messing with the wierd cable that goes from the head unit to the amp... and they didnt include any adaptors... and to make things worse the deck i got only has outputs for the REAR speakers.... i emailed crutchfields tech support and hopefully theyll be able to make something work... worst comes to worst... ill just buy the soundgate adaptor and send this head unit back and get one with outputs for the front and rear speakers... (im assuming that the bass gets filtered out and sent to the sub via the amp?)

anyone have any input on the subject or advice?

edit: all i want is a cd player, with an aux input (for my ipod, preferebly on the front) that will work... either with or without the adaptor

this is what they said

Unfortunately no one has started production of an integration adapter to use the factory amplifier located under the drivers seat, or a amplifier bypass harness. Being that the factory amplifier cannot accept the high level input of an after market stereo it is necessary to bypass the amp. This is done by running speaker wire from the new radio to the speaker output leads of the factory amplifier. Here is a picture of the harness at the Infinity amplifier as well as a list of the wire colors of those leads going from the amplifier to the factory speakers which you will need to attach to the lengths of new wire coming from the speaker output leads of your new deck.

im so sending this thing back

Sending it back is a good idea, as for the money your spending, you'll want to be sure you have a HU with all the features you want (such as at least 2 sets of pre-amps). Also, e-mail them back and inform them that they are incorrect about the lack of adapter and send them a link to Soundgate's product. They shouldn't be telling people that they have to replace the entire system when they don't need to.

Also, Alpine just came out with a headunit specifically designed to work with iPods. Beyond that, most decks have optional adapters (sold seperately) that allow you to connect an auxilary device in through the cd changer controller.

Metra also has an adapter that is better then the soundgate. It actually comes with the wire harness for the same price as the soundgate.

Just letting people know thier is more adapters then just soundgates.

It looks like both. The boxy half with all the colorful wires is the wiring harness, and the other one with the 4 RCAs coming off looks like the S&S adapter. I'd call the seller or manufacturer to verify.

Some searching has shown that the 3G eclipse guys use these, so if they have the same Infinity system that the S&S lancer package has, then yes, this would work.

This must be for changing the deck only. You would need a diffrent DIN adapter if you were changing the amp and leaving the stock deck (why would you do that?). If you were changing both the HU and the amp, you would prob only need RCA's to connect the two. The other adapter their, is for the power, satt., ground, etc... on the back of the deck... not more cutting stock wires . It sounds like a good deal to me!

I was a 3G eclipse guy before, and I used a similar adapter when I swapped HU's. It was soooooo easy to do in the eclipse, and should be even easier in the RA. I should have kept the HU out of the eclipse

Here's something I wrote up for someone else...I installed a Sony Head Unit in my S&S:

"I had the hardest time finding the adaptor. The Infinity sound system has an amp under the drivers seat, for it to work correctly you first need a head unit with pre-amp output, most high-end head units have this. So to start I had the get the speaker converter, I got this from Crutchfield, not that expensive. That changes over the speaker wires to line up with the head unit. Next you need the amp adaptor, this was a bit more expensive. The adaptor connects the pre-amp output to the DIN cable that was plugged into the factory head unit, it's a thick black cable with a bunch of prongs. Here is the adaptor:

Hope that helps."
