RE: Air Filter question

Does anyone know which style of airfilter flow's better? The two popular ones that come to mind are the typical cone style (K&N) and the mushroom style (HKS). I'm not going to say what setup they'd be on b/c airflow is airflow. Thanks guys

I don't know for sure which is better, however I usually only see the mushroom type on forced induction applications.

yeah.....me too....thats really why I'm asking. Is there a reason for it? The only REAL difference i've heard (and I don't know how true this is) is the mushroom style filters tend to get dirtier.

I had a foam filter on a previous car. I prefer the cotton gauze (K&N) type filter. The foam type let dirt through. It was in my carborator (on the butterfly plates).

Which kind was it? Would they ALL let in the dirt? I'm just wondering b/c I always see this style filter used on expensive Turbo setups and just wondered if there is a benefit w/ this style for us NA guys.
