i have an angled exhaust on my car and everyone thinks it looks pretty good. my buddy has a digital camera so i'll have him take some pics monday and i'll put them on. there is really no performence value for doing it to street cars, it is only for looks.

I've always thought that the angled tips were just a good way to collect rainwater during a storm. We had a pretty bad storm roll through Chicago a couple months ago, and one of the people I work with has up-angled pipes on his Cavalier. When he started his car to leave, a jet of nasty, black water shot out of his exhaust.

Nothing like making your exhaust rust out even quicker.

we aren't talking about exhaust tips angled up, we are talking about the entire exhaust canaster or muffler angled sideways.

My stock rear bumper melted a little bit also with just my RMR axleback and 2nd cat still in. It still gets hot enough to melt even without a testpipe or header installed.

yes and no.

1] angled exhausts where the canister and pipe work all angle out to the side or corner of the bumper.

2] angled tips [downward] not the euro style tips like the old school BMWs used to come with as an option. [refer to the pictures i posted on the first page for angled down tips]

Angled exhaust exit equals more power, more noise

OK, so herez what I learned from this thread...

1. It's a JDM thing
2. Less bends = better flow
3. A little "show" factor

Did I miss anything?

pretty much.

angled [down] tips keep the bumpers from burning or turning black, possibly keeping them from melting but heat still rises from the canister so thats a tough one.

The heat from the exhaust piping is also enough to melt the bumper. It doesn't matter if it's angled down or not. My RMR exhaust cleared the lip of the rear bumper just fine (meaning the exhaus gas itself wasn't hitting the bumper) but the canister itself sat close enough to the bumper that it melted some.

And you summed it all up, reTro.
