Question Mandatory Maintenence?

I've never had a new car before let alone one under warranty. I've briefly read some of the main points. Is it mandatory to go in for your scheduled maintenence when they send you the post card? They told me to go in for an oil change and yada yada yada but at the time, I had just had the oil changed so I disregarded it. How **** is Mitsubishi about the warranty? I'm going to take it in for an oil change to the dealer soon and I want to make sure I didn't screw up my warranty by not taking it in when requested. Can anybody clue me in?

Nope i got the post card.. then a phone call.. then another one, i just told them i do my own oil changes, and i buy the filters from the dealership and they said it'll stay underwarranty... As for belts and stuff... i'd bring it back to them. But they're only strict with aftermarket parts or mods.. or at least those in my area are...

you don't even need to get the filter from your dealership.

i just keep the receipts from buying my parts from the local parts store and my mechanic also keeps a log of all my maintenace

My place isn't too strict about aftermarket parts. Long as it isn't a direct mod to the engine or ECU. I always ask them first before I purchase any aftermarket stuff though, just to be sure.

I've been doing my own, no problems. I have the free scheduled maintenence plan, but I'm not comfortable going 7500 miles between oil changes, so I just do them myself. The only time I plan on going in is for the free cabin air filter.

Okay, good becuase I really want to stay in warranty. The mitsu dealer for me is about 15 minutes away from my house but theres nothing remotely close to where I work. There is however a small auto park with a jiffy lube and a few other places right next door to work so I take it there. I think I'll bring it back to the dealer this time. I want to make sure that that clicking sound is just the lifters.

On a side note, I'm going through about half a quart of oil every 5,000 miles. Are you guys experiencing this? I think some oil consumption is normal but then again I'm no mechanic.

Damn, you guys get reminder cards? My dealership won't even answer my calls when I want to schedule an oil change. =\

I think it is normal, but double check your owner's manual, it'll tell you if it is or not.

I would say dont take it to Jiffy Lube and Buy the filter from Mitsu.. they have a Check valve in the filter so it keeps you from getting a lifter tick.. well a serious one. Also at 7500 Miles they change your oil pan gasket.. I jsut had mine done.. I have the 3 years free maintance as well and every other oil change is free.. the rest I pay for.its only like $30 at my dealership.. but they do a check up everytime and they change the oil and other necessities.I have to go this week for another as I am 1000 miles over due (friggin bills-car payment namely). Also Jiffy lube has a bad rep for a reason..You need to learn what your car takes and what not and tell them when you get there if you decide to continue to go there. They change out the oil pan drain plug, and the computer there isnt always right ( I worked there for a few months) also there have been a few instances where some guys there dont put the drain plug back on tightly and this causes problems FAST.Like you run out of oil because theres no drain plug causing you to blow the engine.. not good.Anyways I say take it to the dealer.. Cant ever be too safe.. my dealership allows you to have mods.As long as it doesnt cause the car to have problems that would need to be warrantied.Hell they encourage me to get mods and they will put them off for me if I need them to.

My dealership is cool like that too. They are straight up about everything. The only mods they told me I need to be wary of is the piggyback ECU and turbo kit. Those will void everything under the hood, especially the turbo kit.

the oil pan gasket? you mean they took the whole oil pan off the engine and replaced the gasket?

or do you mean the washer in the drain bolt?

He probably means the crush washer, it'd be pointless to change the pan gasket, as well as a PITA and expensive.

Best way to ensure you got a quality oil change is to do it yourself, then you know it's done right. Buy the oil filters from mitsu (I bought a few when I did my first oil change, so I don't need to keep going back), and they come with a new crush washer in the box.
