3mph, 6000rpm, then trying to push it into 3rd gear? You probably toasted your clutch, or came close to it. Probably time for a trip to the dealership. Though if you end up needing a new clutch, you might as well upgrade to the stage 1 RRM clutch.

what you thought was a burnt clutch is...well...a burnt clutch. time for an upgrade and possibly a lesson in accelerating with a manual transmission

Why did you rev to 6000 and put it in 3rd? I can't see how this could be a mistake? Putting it in third is a easy mistake but reving to 6000?????

How does a clutch get toasted so easily? I burned the hell outta my friend's diesel Jetta's clutch. His was fine. Something isn't making sense, it should take more abuse than that.

key word.. JETTA

Mitsubishi isnt known for thier clutches being very good at standing up to abuse. Why do you think the Evo guys have had problems with them burning out easily?Because they have been beating on them. Also he isnt telling us how many times he has done that or anything else about his driving habits. For all we know he could ride around with his foot on the clutch and that could cause problems and fast clutch wear.Even if you just have your foot touching the clutch pedal while driving it engages it slightly causing wear. Not to mention the fact that Stock clutches in mitsu's suck and they arent for learners as I was told by the dealership.Just my .02
Basically we need more info on this.. and if you htink there is a bad problem with it then take it to the dealership.. but better hope they dont notice that you have been abusing it or they wont warranty it.and the clutch is expensive..

No.. I heard thier problems with thier clutch is worse.. but they tolerate more abuse.Generally german cars are built pretty good.. I never owned one but I have had friends that have owned a few Jettas and Golf's.. They arent all that bad.All I was saying is that They tolerate more abuse than mitsubishi clutches do..This is the 4th Mitsubishi I have owned and NONE of them took abuse well.

You should note, this is a 1988 Jetta diesel, probably makes quite the difference.

golf dont have a bad rep for their clutches...i used to run along with a 1.8t and 2 vr6's, i also ran along with some jettas...with hard street driving...jone of my friends' jettas wnet through a few clutches and turbo problems, and the other just wnet through 1...driver error wasnt it...their clutches just dont last

Ahh.. ok well see.. My boy had a Golf and it had every Clutch problem you could think of.. Driver error was one of them but he went thru alot of clutches as well.I knew of problems but not like that.. like I said I have never been a VW fan.. So I wouldnt really know about thier problems too much.. but still Point was our cars arent much better.. sure they can take some abuse (if you count 1-2 times as some) but they cant take continuous abuse. If you wanna continually abuse your clutch take Honda or Chevy.. They are a lil harder to fry.But as for ours.. they suck.. I am trying to talk ACT into making one but they need to know that there would be a market for it.
