Has anyone figured out the foglights?

I know people have tried (including me) to make the foglights independant of the headlight switch. Has anyone ever figured this out yet?

That'd be awesome if someone found a way to do it, short of completely rewiring the fogs. I may take a closer look at it when I have an electrical diagram of the car down the road.

The foglights are controlled by the green ECU under the hood. It's not going to be as easy as it was on my old DSM.

Some good electrician around here needs to figure out a new ECU or a bypass for those foggies. That would rock being able to have them on with High Beams.

I can give you a bypass. Run wire from fogs, to switch in the dash, to an ACC fuse location. Basically wire them up on their own circuit. But that'd be a lot of work. It'd also let you turn the fogs one without turning on the driving lights or headlights.

If some one electrically inclined could make up a plug and play for resonable cash... could prob sell quite a few on here. I know I'd be interested.

Here is a thread on Club3G about a way one Eclipse owner fixed this: http://www.club3g.com/forum/showthre...g+light+switchEclipses have the same setup as Lancers: the fogs can only be turned on when the lights are on....not with the parking lights. A lot of interior parts are the same between the 2....and the foglight switch is one of them.
Hope this helps!

Ooo, good find. When it warms up outside I'll look into doing this, as I see no reason why it wouldn't work on our cars (the wire colors should even be the same, but I'll definitely check before trying.)

Thought there was another option to make them completely independent, but could not find that thread. They have really cleaned up the site since I was last on there.
Let us know what you find out!

My boyfriend did that same thing when he hooked up his new foglights on his 3g. Just wire them right up to the parking lights and they worked fine...

Some guys I know in the car install bay at bestbuy are going to do this for me. It's going to run from the current of the head lights. This will make the fogs turn off automatically like the headlights. It only requires 5 extra amps on the fuse. Also, this will make it independent of the low/high switch. They will remain on. However, I woun't be able to use them with the parking lights.

mitsuralliart, i am not sure if that's such a good idea, since you don't want the extra draw to burn out your fuse (no lights at all) or your harness

i would just have a new circuit put in with a switch (basically stop using the stock wires and run your own)

I personally have not looked at that thread yet, but i have been in the green box aka "Front ECU" there are 5ish relays and a circuit board. I have played around using a multimeter, and i have found some interesting things, that confused me quite a bit. There is a separate relay outside of the front ecu for the fogs but the front ecu also controls them in some way as well. I have been working on putting something together to keep on my highs on with the lows, I will look into the thread and maybe see if i can figure anything out.
